Maybe there is another signing that will be announced soon and we will have a top of the range hooker or we will play Matt Cook and Clint Newton in the second row have Ben Galea at loose man with Scott Murrell going in at Hooker replaced by Ben Fisher or one of the youngsters. It isn't a major problem position however I think if we want to win regular silverware we do need a Cunningham/Newton/Berrigan...etc to steady the ship from hooker.

We all know that Morgan is a very good coach.

You can see how people may conclude that Spaven has been overlooked though, a 19 year old reserve hooker at another club is brought in and announced as second in line to Ben Fisher. If Spaven can't get a game this year, and Hodgson has been brought in as hooker, you can see why Spaven might possibly be a bit peeved. Maybe he will be a back-up 7, but realistically if Dobson were injured, the odds are that Morgan would play Cooke/Galea or some such combination in the halves before giving Spaven a go.

Maybe Spaven is in JM's long term plans but still needs to work on his physical attribrutes for a while longer. Hodgson has already played a little superleague and has good strength and size for someone of a young age.

Spaven hasn't got a look in this year for whatever reason, but there's no room to be sentimental and if Rovers' coaching staff see Hodgson as the better prospect then so be it.
