A lot of journalists are pond life who write tripe so I can see this "story" for what it is - selling papers at all costs to protect their long term interests.

It should serve as yet another reminder to Ben not to get into trouble in the future.

If he apologised or not it would make not a jot of difference to blinkered FC fans.. they are just looking to put red and white down!!

You've got the wrong end of the stick. The point of this thread was that the HDM have gone over the top in the reporting of this story (which I think virtually everyone would agree with) and that as a consequence Rovers supporters should mount a public show of support for him. I was pointing out that to the national press and tv audience, who don't know about the HDM's coverage of the case, this will just look like condoning what he's done.

Fine I will compromise. I will be there tomorrow with my banner saying: This is a banner to show Ben Cockayne we are supporting him in this time as a result of the media witch hunt but are in no way condoning what he has done.

The victin said himself in his first interview, that Ben had apologised since the incident (although he obviously wouldnt accept it) Looking at his interview in todays rag, poor little Kiel appears to have a bit of an 'aggressive' pose doesnt he, whats the finger pointing and pouted mouth all about?

Nah - regardless of any alleged private mumblings publicly Ben has not apologised to club or victim, - depspite what the club has said on his behalf - and certainly not before the club's statement the other day.

There couldnt have been a more honest and detailed statemet. It reflects the horror of Bens actions, unlike some clubs for instance who give out statements claiming:

“This matter will be dealt with as per our internal disciplinary policy.

“That procedure will be made private and confidential. There will be no further comment to the media”.

This isn't the FC board, pal.

Back O/T. The HDM has, unfortunately, become synonymous with this kind of journalism in recent times, ever since Meehan became editor, it seems. They aggressively pursue the angles, and have been known to target certain people and print every little bit of negativity they can cobble together (my boss included!)

Don't get me wrong, I for one am disgusted with what Ben did, I have said previously that he should have done time for it (regardless of the circumstances before the attack, he went too far.)

Baring the above in mind, I have also said I'm happy with the way the club have responded to the incident. Unlike other clubs in the same situation, he has been punished yet also been made to seek professional rehabilitation. For me this is a real show of personal commitment by the club to help Ben be a better person, to sack him would have been the easy way out!

Even though I am disgusted with what Ben did the Mail is printing sensationalist tripe! Fair do's run the story, but to then go at it again, when to be fair, what is left to be said? Nothing so they print a bit of crap that contradicts things previously reported



It does come over as a bit of a personal witch hunt to be fair.

Now let me give my opinion on Mr Thompson, what an idiot!

1) He has previously said Ben had offered an apology, which clearly was not excepted.

Then he shows his true lack of morals and intelligence by having a public rant about everyone being to lenient with Ben.





Did he really think just cause he wasn't prosecuted for perverting the cause of justice, that it automatically wipes the memory of it from the public domain?

As previously stated by another poster, when the case was first reported, the club did come out and say how sorry Ben was for the incident. By the sound of it Mrs B wants Ben to seek her out and give her a personal apology

Yes Raynor made a public apology for what he had done (funny I missed the mails two day 8 page report on his crime

) then went on to doing something dodgy with ink cartridges, how heartfelt his apology of disgracing the club must have been, NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And for what it is worth, Raynor did not show remorse for what he had done, it was focused on how he was sorry for letting down the fans and embarrassing the club! Yet, you lot lapped it up, not because he had done the right thing, but because it gratified your over weaning ego's.

In short, I DO NOT support what Ben has done, but some of you black and whites have SERIOUS double standards.

He doesn't need to apologize to me, he hasn't done anything to me. What I am interested in is how he responds to his second chance. I for one hope he grabs it with both hands and becomes a more controlled person, only time will tell.
