Reading through again, my guess would be that it's over the 11 clubs examined. Although that's not explicitly stated. Slightly muddled synopsis really.

Difficult to believe that there are two clubs operating with >£16m net debt. They'd have to be clubs with extraordinarily rich backers/owners and the bulk of the debt as directors loans.

How does a review into the games running even get triggered? Surely somebody has to sanction a review to take place? The game is in a poor state of affairs and is constantly fending off union and the NRL to keep its best players, even though league is a better product. The season is starting without a sponsor for the main competition, we get little or no terestrial TV coverage unless its at stupid o clock at night, so there is little chance of attracting new audiences. Something needs to happen, the whole game needs to be marketed better but who can/will do this, i dont know!

So does FC, and Wigan, I think they (and from reading that link, Rovers) are charity/community arms of the club, whereas the article seems to imply that the main club/function of a couple of clubs is a charitable trust, which as Kosh says, is intriguing.

Adding those values up doesn't equal the £60M+ deficit, perhaps you should have another look?

I dont have a calculator at hand but that appears to add up to more than 60m.

I reckon they must be using £30m as Saints, for their stadium. Otherwise it makes no sense. And if this is actually true, it makes no sense either!

A calculator would be of absolutely no help to you without a basic grasp of mathematics

A book value is basically assets - liabilities, a balance sheet position.


For instance, it is known that Saint's borrowed x amount from directors for their stadium build.

If this was say £3m (it would be shown as a credit or negetive figure on the b/s), but the stadium as an asset is worth say £19m (a positive debit figure), then the net position would be £16m.

They'd still have the £3m debt though - which is what the programme was looking at.

London & Huddersfield we know are proped up by an owner and directors loans (debt) with no large assets as such, hence their positions.

Does that make sense?
