Paul Cooke is a Hull Kingston Rovers player
Paul Cooke of Hull Kingston Rovers is going on loan to Wakefield Wildcats
yet despite all this the majority of posts are from Hull F.C fans who state that Hull Kingston Rovers fans are obsessed with their club and that all Hull Kingston Rovers fans have a small club mentality,
Would you agree all my information is correct?'"
Not all Hull KR fans have a small club mentality. Gordon Gekko doesn't, at least.
Would you agree that Cooke played the majority of his career at Hull FC and was a key player in winning the only major trophy on either side for 25+ years? And crossed this city in rather shabby circumstances? Not unreasonable for some of us to be interested in this latest turn of events, particularly after such outright condemnation of rumours of unrest between Cooke and Morgan as complete fabrication. And, as stated, FC fans outnumber Rovers fans, end of.

If Dobson wins you a challenge cup and is a major factor in you getting to a grand final then only months after said GF walks out on your club and makes an illegal approach to Hull FC and signs within days, how would you approach this situation?

It has been an entertaining, if often distracting, sideshow. I certainly wouldn't say it has been regrettable - if I could go back in time and stop it happening, on the premise that we'd still maybe have had enough to get above Salford in 2007, I honestly wouldn't take that risk. I'm happy with how things turned out. That said, and despite some headline grabbing displays, the endless rumours and his tendency to drift/be pushed to the periphery of play mean that I don't regret his leaving as much as I would if it had been an unequivocal success. He came at a time when we needed quality and when it really mattered he delivered it - he just hasn't continued to deliver it consistently. Kear might be the man to get the best out of him again.
Quote ="barton baird"So,after one million nine hundred and ninety nine Cookey postings on both Hull forums,he has finally gone?'"
Upton Cat and the Hull Daily Mail will have a lot to answer for if he is the Rovers 19 at 2pm tomorrow.

I honestly do not believe that the way in which Cooke left Hull F.C will ever be repeated by any other player, the management at Hull F.C where 100% to blame form him wanting to leave and then leaving. I'd be delighted we had won the Challenge Cup, firstly and that would be my abiding memory I'd hope. I'd regret his departure and question the competence of our board in failing to get a contract signed. I'd appreciate that professional sportsmen are motivated by cash. I'd remember that it had happened the other way, albeit in a desperate situation of existential proportions for Rovers, and realise that we couldn't therefore really complain. I'd delete every 'hahaha, you don't like it when the boot is on the other foot' posts from Hull fans.* C'mon - nobody is that sanguine!
The difference is that we don't regard it as inconceivable that one of our players might choose to join you for something as base as money. Nor do we regard you as inferior, despicable lower division fodder, on a one year tourist trip to SL, so it wouldn't be such a blow to our prestige and sense of superiority.
* I wouldn't really. No siree.

Anyways, seen as you are capable of having an honest debate...Do you think cookie will play against you on Friday? I've heard he will, i've heard he won't. Is there a chance (don't jump on my back) that you HAVE had to move cookie on to accomodate Clinton as it's a strange coincidence that since he signed Cookie has been nowhere near the team, also there are ways and means to work this around a live salary cap. MY thought train is that neither club has comfirmed yet Cookie thinks it's happening, is the stumbling block that Rovers don't want him to play yet need to move him on by the end of the week for cap reasons and Wakey know this so are using it against Rovers? there 6 is injured after all.

I honestly think the cap thing is likely to be a red herring. If we have backloaded Clinton's deal this may allow us to rejig things, but that is all IMO. I like conspiracy theories, but I don't generally believe them.
Whether he plays or not - it depends on a few things. Whether Kear would throw him straight in with no practice and lots of emotion for one. How many injuries they have would be another. How much of his wage Rovers are paying and whether we are so desperate to get shot that we don't have much of a bargaining position is the big one. There has to be a point at which the deal is unattractive - just depends whether there any circumstances under which Morgan would ever pick him, or whether he'd consider Crusaders (for example).

| To be honest i have been bored of the Cooke situation for a long time now. He left us in circumstances that was always going to lead to him being a hate figure for the majority of FC fans. And if a similar thing happened to Rovers the player in question would also become a hate figure for the majority of Rovers fans.
Cross city moves are common place and we have seen plenty of them over the years and they will continue to happen with very little fuss. Just happened that this particular one had a nasty spiteful taste to it
I think that is why a lot of FC fans are on here now, but the fact is Cooke is not leaving you on anywhere near the same terms he left us. He will get a "thank you for your time at the club and good luck to you" from just about every Rovers fan and rightly so.
Was it worth it? The fans will undoubtedly say yes as a lot believe he kept them in the SL that first year (i personally find that a bit harsh on the other players in the squad at the time) The board may have a different view but it is all speculation at the end of the day unless you know exactly what he has been paid over the last few years.
If he does go i feel he should move over lock stock and barrel and make a new start, it could end up being the best thing he ever does.

| cooke caused to many problems off the field and to be honest i dont think that will ever change which ever club he goes too.
bottom line is morgs didnt get on with cooke for various reasons ,we all know about the incidents about been unfit to train many rumours coming out of unrest with in the camp between certain players and cooke, the list goes on and on.
again as stated previously at HFC he was the main man everything went through cooke ,were at HKR he just isnt seen in that light .
he was a good signing for rovers when he came and continued to be until he let himself down again.
i think 99% of both rovers and hull fans will agree that he's had more then enough chances to sort himself out.
itjust isnt going to happen not in this city anyway,
morgs knows exactly whats going on behind the scenes as do the players ,hes seen the bad apple and decided enough is enough.
im 100% behind morgs he sees the decision that needs to be made and makes it.
its not a special case for cooke ,
since morgs arrived hes held the same stance ,you get your chance to prove your self,if u insist on putting your self in bad light time and time again then your gone.
in morgs we trust IMO its the best way to run the team everyone knows were they stand ,no one player is bigger then the club and thats how it should be.
if cooke does go
many thanks paul for your efforts and good luck to you.

That’s rubbish, part of the blame is at the board, but Cooke still has to take part of the blame got greedy, this has backfired on him.
He was in trouble with the law a few times during his time, did Hull sack him, did the fans boo him, no they stuck by him and paid him a good wage.
He walked out on the club in the middle of the season leaving us in trouble and it has taken us over two years to recover (the coaches should have sorted it out earlier though). Hull fans paid his wages for years and he just s**t all over them, if he had done it better, maybe waited until the end of the season, it would have been better.
Hull board (Plummer) fooked up by not making him sign his contract.
But it was his decision to walk out of Hull and the fans when he did.
As for him winning us the CC final and getting us to the GF , that is very disrespectful to the other players that helped get us there, he like others played a big part in that success, but to say that he did it on his own is just ridiculous.
If Dobson walked out on rovers tomorrow for more money and signed for Hull, I sure that all Rovers wouldn’t be happy and wouldn’t call him a legend.
It isn’t just a Hull fans grudge; there has been no ill feeling towards players like Wheeldon, Chester and Briscoe.

To be fair tho' that was part of negotiations and he never just left, Hull made an offer, Briscoe turned it down, Hull said off you pop then.
I got the feeling listening to the deafening silence when JM was asked about PC on radio humbs last night that he is sick to the back teeth of being asked about Paul Cooke. He leaves him out and he gets questioned, he plays him and he gets questioned. Why play him there, here?? every press conference comes down to Paul Cooke and I always got the feeling JM just never felt he was that big a player for us, more just an annoyance that made his job harder.
I've stated before Paul was a big cog in us staying up and to some extents progressing but he has never been key for us since dobbo came in, we have other options that seem to work as well if not better than him in the squad, so to have such a big chunk of cap sat in the stands makes no sense at all.
Someone stated its come full circle on us, but it hasn't I don't believe this is a PC decision, more a JM one wanting to get rid. Hopefully it goes through and we can concentrate on getting on with playing rugby now the circus has left town.

He did want more money, but he acted more professional, he waited until the end of the season when he was OOC.
If Cooke had of done this, tehy would have been 95% of the posts about him.
