There's certainly a bit more depth to the squad than the last few seasons. More so than usual though, our season will need a bit of luck with injuries if we are to realise the potential.

Not forgetting Matty Marsh and Sonny Esslement who both forced their way into 19 man squads at the back end of 2014. Plus Steve Holker. Some really exciting young local talent to be mentored and mixed in with the established NRL performers that we have brought into the club.

It's disgusting that a club who has now had 8 years in SL and the revenue streams that brings, can only boast one academy product in their 17. Only 8 of them are British too!

It's 'short termism' and goes against the rhetoric of your chairman a few years back of having East Hull lads at the core of the team. I'm not sure it sends the right message to the talented few lads you have coming through.

Not seen our 17, can you show me the way? Last time I checked, we met the SL criteria for home grown numbers in our squad. I await your stinging correction of this fact.

I do hope Chester's 17 is markedly different from the ones posted on here. Of course you'll meet the standard for home grown, it's easy when you're signing other people's products. How many academy lads have a realistic chance of regular first team rugby next year? 2? 3?

No you don't you want it to be identical to the above so that you can pursue the latest troll agenda.

If the academy lads are good enough then they will get a game its simple really. I want to see the strongest team, yes it would be nice to have a team full of players that we have developed but you cant be sentimental in sport.

Difficult to select a team having not seen so many players play but id go with....

I hope you are happy with your team, I certainly haven't felt the need to cross the divide and pass comment, I never would. Me? I'm happy with our recruitment now, regardless of origin, accents etc. Lets leave it at that eh?

Thing is Stan, not once have I said your team or squad is bad, but I think it will be a struggle for you to bed in 13 new signings and the team will lack identity, compounded by the fact your two halves will only have 3-5 weeks training with the squad.

Doubtful, given the comparative histories of the two teams over the last 10-15 years.

13 signings is too many, but we had to clear out so much of the Sandercock era we really didn't have much choice, especially as many wanted out anyway. I expect 2015 to be similar to 2008 when we were hugely inconsistent.

Having 2 halves, regardless of training time will be an improvement on last year's 1.

Since the franchising system and the need for academy structures to meet criteria, which is what I was talking about, where did it get Hull, below Rovers?

It terms of the effectiveness of the strategy, 'failure' brings its own punishment. Disgusting seems to imply some sort moral aspect beyond that, which I don't see. Licensing attempted to offer security in return for meeting centrally planned targets and obligations. It wasn't run equitably though, so now we're back to a cleaner, simpler (if more brutal) environment, with straightforward incentives . If a club is profligate, the punishment is going bust. If their facilities are poor, they'll generate less revenue. If they don't produce good players they've got one less pool of talent to draw on.

Warnings are legitimate, and like a number of clubs we have some issues to deal with. Censure, on the other hand... Nah. Dog eat dog, but at least we know where we stand now.

The rhetoric or mood music or whatever that we had around the start of the Sandercock era has changed. Hopefully the club learned from all that. I'd rather they adapted than stuck rigidly to something that wasn't working.

I think those are good points and Stan drawing a parallel with 2008 is too. My worry is that Morgan had more capital then than Chester does now and SL was moving from 12 to 14, whereas this time it is the other way, with fewer 'should win' games. We are going to have to be patient, because tearing it all up and starting again for 2016 would be stupid IMO. We have to develop the identity you mention and that will take time. It was something we lacked in recent seasons, in part because of the chopping and changing. Sandercock's recruitment and retention was a major cause of that. Where I'm led to believe he [umight[/u have a meaningful legacy is in helping to improve our youth system.
