I think our best option is to look for a championship player who would be able to make the step up or try to find an eager young Aussie/Kiwi on the fringe or the NRL who would be classed as club trained if they start their first grade career here (like Lovegrove did). Gleeson just seems to be a gamble that did not pay off. On the plus side Salter has been a real gem of a find & lets hope we can unearth another like him.

Always wondered why Menzies Yere at Sheffield never got a crack at SL. He more than looks the part for both club & country.

Because he isn't good enough for Super League.
He will of been looked at by the lower half teams I reckon and the fact he is still playing at Championship level speaks volumes.

How do you know he's not good enough when he played against us that day he was better than the centres we had on display

Just my opinion mate.
There is a world of difference between having one good game against an out of sorts Rovers to being a consistant SL performer.
Mick Nanyn was a powerhouse centre at that level but also wasn't good enough when taking the step up.
Who knows,if he has a good world cup then he may get his chance but not good enough from what I've seen of him.

Based on the limited number of Sheffield games I have seen, he looks plenty capable (in my opinion). There is a growing number of sucess stories coming out of the Championship into Super League. I suspect it will be quota rather than talent that holds him back.

Does anyone actually know what is wrong with Sean Gleeson? and when was the last time he was seen at MS3 CP?

I have heard conflicting reasons for his sick absence:

1. A slipped disc (from tossing tractor tyres in pre-season)
2. Sciatica (ditto)
3. Stress-related (re off-field matters)

HE hurt is back climbing out of bed so he said sod it and stayed their

4. Injured his back doing piggy back races carrying micky paea

Chris Chester on Humberside said Gleeson could be playing in a couple of weeks



Welham's had surgery though & is gone for the season
