If you get the pre-union Lee Smith, it would be a good signing. This year, Lee Smith has been shocking though, the Leeds' fans are even offering to drive him down to Hull!

Belt tightening is certainly on the agenda if some of the names I'm hearing are anywhere near the mark.

Graham Horne, Andy Ellis, Frankie Mariano, Lee Smith, Matt Blaymire. Those signings just simply don't cut it. But still if we have to cut the purse strings for financial reasons then so be it.

TBF Horne was steady , if unspectular in his first season at Shudds , and featured in the team regularly.

What about trying to get sammut from crusaders. Would be non fed, can play full back and hooker and also cover halves. Not sure what his contract status is tho. Certainly would give us attack options from fb.

Here's a novel idea why don't rovers look to sign a fullback to play fullback? I would sooner go with Louis Sherrif than any of the names mentioned do far none of whom have fullback as their preferred or best position. Letting Brisk go could end up haunting Rovers.

Sherrif is certainly one for the future, I wish we had managed to get his signature. Having not seen him play this year I do not know if he is quite ready for the step up.

I agree on the sherrif one, hence why sammut would be a good option. Sign him as primarily a hooker / halfback cover, yet he could play FB and spell Sherrif so its a lead in rather than dropping him in the deep end. I believe he also played a season at FB in the NRL. Signing a specialist full back would surely stifle Sherrifs development as it would be injury cover only.

I disagree. Signing a specialist fullback could enhance Sherrifs development as he would be able to serve his apprenticeship under someone experienced in that position. Thats why letting Briscoe go makes no sense imo.

I'm assuming Briscoe wanted too much money / too long a contract and the forced our hand. The worry with signing an experienced full back is how long do we give him as a contract? no one comes for a year so it'd be a minimum of 2, if he's a top quality specialist FB are we saying Sherrif doesn't play for another 2 years? Its a really difficult one if the coaching staff think he's ready (or very near). I can see why the Cockayne situation has thrown a spanner in the works.

Cockayne would have been the first choice fullback next season thats why the originally said Brisk could leave, so the coaching staff obviously don't think Sherrif is ready yet. Now it could be a case of him having to be ready which isn't ideal.

Was shocked when Neil hinted that Cockayne would have been replacing Bricsoe at full-back next season - Briscoe was brought in after our first SL season to replace Cockayne at FB because he was a lot better, so surely Cockayne getting the shirt back now would have been a big backward step?! Okay it's irrelevant now, but it just shows how much they've lost the plot.
