I suspect both clubs would have been happy to let sleeping dogs lie, for a few weeks - but Mather put a metaphorical bomb under that. Forced our hand really - we could play along with either silence or honesty (if forewarned), but playing along with his rubbish - no. It's not like it was exactly keeping a lid on it.

Not sure why what the agent said made any difference at all to what the clubs should have done ? If the agent was asked directly about Paea's intentions and Paea understandably didn't want to finish his KR career as a 'future FC player' then the agent protecting his player and giving a fairly generic answer isn't really such a bad thing is it ? Hudgell could have simply said nothing. Contract negotiations and deals like this must happen as a matter of course in the league - why should this one be outed so that 'the fans know the truth'. Comes across as yet more bitterness I'm afraid.

I like Paea, seems a good bloke - work with disadvantaged kids and all that. But if he and his agent are coming out with misleading statements, and doing it in a pretty incompetent way that lights many more fires than it puts out, our alternatives are joining in, which isn't in our interests, or bringing it to an end. At least McDonnell just kept quiet and looked a bit shifty when questioned by Angela Powers. Maybe it could have worked twice - I bought his 'alibi', tbf, but that was because doing what he has is pretty stupid.

Moving to Hull from Rovers is no crime. It's not going to make you Mr. Popular with red and whites, but it's pro sport. I really don't understand the need for such cack-handed subterfuge.

He could have been much more vague, if that is what he wanted. If the hdm knew he'd signed, then they were going to be like a dog with a bone for something on record. But they could have blocked. Instead he did his very forthright, slightly Sir Les Paterson bit. And 'forthright' is fine, if you're being honest.

Hull fans will generally have a negative perception of NH's actions and motivations, but we're his target audience, and I'd say he's done the right thing to stop it bleeding on. Reet, breakfast time.

Tho i agree with Hudge that Paea should just be honest i would prefer it if he spent his time trying to retain some of our players?! So far this week looks like we have lost Carille, Paea and Beaumont with Withers being told to find a new club we have some serious recruitment ahead of us. He's said he has no intention of staying at Rovers,surely that is as much as the fans need to know? who he signs for in either hemisphere is irrelevant. Anything his agent comes out with after that is also irrelevant,it's the fact it's Hull he's signed for that is the problem. I'm glad a few of the more sensible rovers fans who post can see beyond that and take it for what it is,a player fulfilling his contract and moving on. I feel exactly the same way about Tickle and Briscoe and couldn't care less who they sign for (although i know plenty who do).

Tho i wish he would concentrate on retaining/signing players instead of being in the HDM for once he's right he should just say he's going to FC and the fans can then judge him, Me he's given his all and FC are offering him a substantial deal so well done Mickey i rather he stayed but sadly were a small time club until any decent investment comes along and we will just have to live with it

If the KR fans get on Paea's back for being a future FC player how will that help Rovers this season ? Sure if it's true Paea no doubt wanted to avoid some personal flak but maybe also he genuinely wants to give 100% to KR and he/his agent felt that the best way to do that was to keep the move confidential as long as possible to avoid any bad feeling that might occur ? The position is obviously more sensitive with it being a cross city move rather than say Tickle to Widnes or Briscoe to Wigan. Just can't see why Hudgell feels that it's so important that KR fans know about Paea's move now. I'd be amazed if he hasn't been involved in signing players from other clubs in the past where the parties haven't agreed to keep things under wraps. Just seems like by effectively accusing Paea (although it was his agent) of being economical with the truth he's more likely to damage his own club this year than anything/anyone else.

C'est La Vie as the saying goes. While i'm disappointed we are losing Mickey, he like any other player has gone for the money. I hope the negativity around the move (brought about by Mickey and his agent) doesn't affect his game and he continues to give 100% for the rest of the season. I for one won't be booing him until he wears the 666...I mean black and white of Hull FC

Maybe he wanted to keep it quiet so he could concentrate on giving 100% to your cause for the remainder of the season without being subjected to the kind of abuse he's getting on Twitter and bound to get from the stands. Hardly too much to ask from a player that's never given less than full commitment in his time at your club.

I don't understand the need to dissemble (even semi-competently). Props and money are a funny thing, there's no real shortage of them but I personally would have pushed the boat out for Paea as going forward I think he's the best prop in the league.

Hudgell and Sandercock obviously feel that the budget is better spent elsewhere.

I've really enjoyed watching him play, always got the crowd going and his barn storming drives will live long in the memory.

Obviously Hudgell can and will say what he likes and quite rightly so.
Whether or not outing some no-name agent for 'talking BS' is more benficial to KR (and therefore its fans) than preventing a situation where some KR fans become openly hostile to one of their key players during an important run-in (it's already happening in Twitter land) - well that's just a judgement call I suppose.

I found it funny when Hudge said that giving Sandy a one year extension should 'put to bed' any uncertainties Mickey had at the club!
