I'd say a disproportionately high % do. Remember the number of world class players is small relative to non-world class.

Maybe it is to do with opportunity though. Ferguson had to work his way up from East Stirling, similar to most, while Dalglish got his start at dominant Liverpool.

I'd say better players tend to start higher up the ladder, whether they are more likely to climb is difficult to judge. Remember that low-profile players that [ifail[/i as managers (generally at lower profile clubs) tend to go unnoticed or unremembered. Whereas the disasters like Tony Adams (high profile, rather than world class I know), are played out in full public view.
