In a radical departure from recent months, does anyone fancy a chat about a game?

It's bloody freezing so the first worry is whether we actually get it on. I'm pleased to see the squad is more respective than the one picked for Nev's testimonial 2 years ago when Fax tore us a new one.

Not bothered about the result obviously but it will be nice to see Alby out there for the 1st time since "that" game.

No injuries, not miles off in fluency of play and not bullied too badly down the middle are the positives (technically negatives), I'm hoping for.

Nice to see we've the same frailties as last year, apart from our attack going backwards!

Deja vu listening to it. Weak weak weak. Defence sounded symbolic as usual. It cones with the ticket that we ship 3 tries a half minimum.
We've recruited young players. They look to have great promise but they ain't gonna fix our defence.
I'll watch it on hull kr tv then come back.

Looking for posatives, maybe we have got our "ONE" inept performance out of the way before the season starts? Its a reality check for the new guys? Did anyone play well?

James Green was good and young Mulhearn showed up ok, the rest were gash.

Same old same old, god knows what Chester and Poching have been doing with the team in pre season but, based on todays performance not much by the look of things.
The positives were few and far between, however, some praise has to be give to some of the pack who overall performed reasonably well I thought, in particular James Green and Greenwood when he came on.
I also thought Walker played some good minutes and on top of those I thought Thornley looked very promising.
On the flip side I thought the backs looked very out of sorts with Marsh, despite his late try, looking very ordinary at halfback, he needs to get involved more and take on the line because for most of the game he just shipped the ball on.
The problems we were experiencing on the field last season seemed to have been carried forward to this one with no lessons learnt, sloppy goal line defence and lack of concentration at crucial times were there for all to see today.
Although this was a pre season friendly and against a very good Huddersfield outfit who I'm sure will be in the top 4 this year, Rovers were hugely disappointing overall.
I just hope that they can manage to sort things out quickly otherwise it could be a long hard season ahead, plus Chester and Pooching could well be picking up their p45s before the end of the season as I'm pretty sure the fans will not stomach more excuses and another failure this season.

I wouldn't worry about pre-season friendlies. A few years ago we beat Leeds away and Chris Thorman was motm. At long last we have solved our half back problem. We finished 12th.

Green went very well and Greenwood looked good but apart from that very few positives. Anyone know why Lunt didn't play

Chester said Lunt turned his ankle in training, he's having a scan next week.

Watched the first half. Same problems. It's all about winning the ruck and we fail at least once a set. Markers on the floor, inability to even get the opponent off their feet regularly. A lack of ability to count and match up. It all comes from losing the ruck.
I watched some games from last season back recently. This was the same....our defence is pathetic. We just shipped 40 AGAIN at home.
I'm afraid we're bottom 3 this year. Our back row is far too light. None of them other than Blair would make ANY team in super league. A converted half back..Blair...ain't going to fix it without help.
If there was any improvement from last pre season I'd be more confident but there ain't....
We have to have 3 wins in the 1st 6 games if not Chester is in massive trouble for me.
I should remember this is a friendly. Hope I'm wrong.

Massive fixtures for us in the first two months and Campo and Lunt looking like they won't be fit.....fantastic.

Too slow around the ruck, no runners looking for angles, too many players hiding.
Green and Greenwood looked very good, Walker put in a good shift. I'm afraid Marsh looked ineffective, tilse no better than last season, our backs looked decidedly fragile.
I know Chester can't be blamed for everything, but there was a lack of structure or ideas today, and that I lay firmly at his door. He for me, is on borrowed time.
