Unless it was salary cap issues that stopped that happening I can't see us being able to sign him either

Having read the MEN article Koukash does seem to suggest other issues but 'what' isn't clear.

As far as I am aware Rovers are looking to fill the vacant quota spot with someone who has European ancestry - Campese fits this criteria - and it seems he will be the solution for the hooker role as well.

Apparently SC isn't an issue for Rovers so we will have to wait for the official announcement.

Campese has played 139 times for Canberra and has yet to play hooker.

You should know by now every player in the world can suddenly turned into hooker it's the law

Please, please, please sign him I will be absolutely gutted if he signs for us, he is so past it with injuries now just read the Canberra forum.

Salford don't have a non fed place left, I know Hudds and assorted london fans might find it hard to believe but they have even more foreigners than us!

There are clubs closer than Salford who have more Antipodeans than ourselves, this is frequently ignored as it doesn't fit the "HKA" agenda.

Buying Campese to play hooker would be like buying a Ferrari to go to the corner shop.
If you can keep him fit for a season he could win you a title - but it's unlikely that you will keep him fit.
You'd be better off running Blair at hooker. I think he has the passing skills and the defence, but I doubt he'd have long minutes in him as a hooker.

Blair at hooker, surely not. He will for me more than likely play in the centre if Campese signs.

Not sure what to make of the signing if it turns out to be true.

A one year deal will work in your favour.
He is on a $500k contract this year - mostly paid by Canberra I imagine - and he has a year to prove he is worth another decent contract, either back in the NRL or in the ESL.
He basically has to have a good year, or face retirement.

It is official (on Rovers website), a one year deal, and we can all sigh with relief he will be played in the halves.


Reading between the lines of the articles (on Rovers website) it would seem Rovers salary cap is now exhausted, meaning the search for a 9 is off with Chester going with Carlile and Boudebza (and Robinson).

Totally agree with Roopy's assessment of the deal; I guess it will come down to how the player and Rovers manage his game time, keeping a player healthy with his track record is going to need handling with kids gloves.

Don't really know what to make of this, it certainly will add depth and will take away the worry of losing one of our halves to injury.
Not really seen a lot of him but he certainly ticks the experience box and on a one year deal its probably a risk worth taking, suppose the down side is if he's rubbish he'll be off after a year but equally if he's great its likely to be the same outcome.

Still really not sure about how this leaves us . Our hooker doesn't look great our back row is weak and were still short of a prop
