I know that come the middle of the week this will all be consigned to history and we will sit and look at the table and see ourselves sitting outside the top eight. Going into the last 10 minutes we had three tough calls go against us, with a blatant knock on in the lead up to Hull’s first try, a phantom offside by us giving them the position from which Kirk Yeaman scored, and a video referee decision on the grounding which was highly questionable in my opinion. I can’t have any complaints over those in isolation, although they were wrong, in the same way we benefitted from some similar calls last year. But any one of them being called right would have avoided the last call. The amount of money and resource ploughed into the officials' department entitles us to expect better and more consistently correct decisions. I had a call last night from Steve Ganson with an apology and explanation for making the wrong decision. I like Steve and respect him for doing that, and our conversation will remain private. The apology since issued by the RFL though is wholly inadequate. I have a group of players who are distraught that their efforts have not had the reward which they deserved. I have supporters who have again turned up in their numbers at great expense and who feel cheated, and a coach fighting for a new deal whose livelihood could stand or fall on these decisions. For all of them I need more than ‘sorry’ from an ex-Hull FC player, coach and vocal advocate down the years. It is empty and tokenistic and an insult to our fans. The clear impression is that ‘sorry’ is enough and all is forgotten come Tuesday when everyone goes back to work. They are baffled and mystified and need to know why the call was made, and what lessons will be learnt from it. In my opinion, we are no further on in improving the standard of refereeing than we were at the inaugural Magic Weekend when there was the Leeds versus Bradford fiasco, and the reason for that, in no small part, is down to the ‘respect campaign’. Legitimate criticism and debate is suppressed by a zealous desire to cover over incompetence, serious weaknesses and under performance. He is absolutely right in this statement.
RL is becoming a joke through these decisions.
The FA are considering using video evidence at Football matches to make the game fairer, so these decisions are dealt with properly.
I can guarantee we dont see the same fiascos in Football.

I'm not a fan of Jon Sharp, after his 'friends at Hull FC' comment in 2007 - but what else can he say about this? Is there a fuller explanation, beyond human (very poor) error?

Whether we need to move more from respect to performance assessment - maybe we need more of the latter, but it is crucial we retain the former.

Yeah I saw their faces, as glum as I'd expect them to be as the team were having their asses handed to them. They were probably furious last year about Ganson's inability to spot a blatant forward pass.
What makes this statement pathetic is that he's had a personal apology, there's been a public apology and the RFL have issued a statement saying it was wrong, yet he still releases this crap! Even your own fans have started to move on yet he still seeks further explanation? It just shows him as bitter, no doubt lines like 'our fans deserve' and 'I have to explain to our fans' blah blah blah means you'll all be lapping it up, just like you hang off every word he says.

Quite right MR. I am aware you can't be seen to say it but it's a complete lack of respect being shown. The RFL took the unprecedented move to issue full private and public apologies. There's little else that can be done. The 'some ex-FC player' comment says it all.

We finished 6th last year. We're currently in 6th.

Respect goes both ways. Where was the respect from Ganson for both these teams in this close fought contest?

Ganson is a premadonna that loves to be bigger than the game. All clubs have sufferred unexplainable decisions from this 'character'. He brings the whole game into disripute when it happens and makes the whole sport seem amateurish and fixed which is the worst advert possible for our great game.

Forget reorganising the league sort out the basics of having competant referees.

All I want now is the RFL to clarify how it won't happen again.
Root Cause Corrective Action is what it's called in my job if a mistake is made.
Identify what went wrong.
Then state what preventative measures have been put in place to prevent reoccurance.
That has not happened so far but maybe it's too soon and might happen during the next week or two

That quote there completely ruined the entire statement and showed his true colours. Completely uncalled for and completely unnecessary. It's comments like that that create unneeded ill-feeling between the clubs. I'm glad some of the more level-headed Rovers fans can see that. I just don't see what he hopes to achieve from making that comment.
