I remember the coach we used to travel on during the eighties, it used to run from the Four in hand pub every away game and was nearly always the first coach away on the day and the first in to the pub, no mater where.
I particularly remember when we used to play Featherstone or Castleford on Sundays and used to stop of in Pontefract beforehand, although it was only about a 45 minute journey, we would set off from Hull at about 10 am to arrive at Ponty just before 11am.
Although pubs didnt officialy open until 12 o clock,(Sunday hours) there used to be one called the white elephant or something and you could go around the back where the door would be open and you could join the locals who must have been there since god knows what time in the morning.
We would stay in there untill official opening time before making our merry
way around the rest of the Pontefract pubs, including one called the Hollywood bar which nearly always had blue movies or something showing.
Come 2 o clock or there abouts, it would be into the Kentucky fried chicken shop before getting back on to the coach and making our way to the ground, singing at the top of our voices from wherever anyone could hear us, including out of the roofs sky lights as we arrived.
They were always mad, mad days but oh so much fun.
