Quote="Vicenzo"I've told you this story before and its the absolute truth. I had an ex-directory phone on my desk and one day it rang. It was a chap called Gavin Miller asking to speak to Hull Director Mike Page. Page's number had the same first four numbers as mine but the last two where the other way round. He explained that he was looking to play in the UK and had been told that Hull FC were interested. I made sure he wrote my number down and asked him to ring back in 10 mins or so. I rang Pete Johnson to see if we would be interested and was told a definate yes. When Gavin rang back I told him that Hull FC were not able to offer any terms due to financial constraints but that our good friends from across the river would be able to accomodate him!. I got him to ring Pete and the rest they say is history.I told Mike Page what I had done and he went beserk!! This story is true and I like to think I played a big part in getting one the best Aussies ever to come to the UK.
Sometime later Gavin had played Saints on his own and Mike Page was a guest. At halftime someone remarked to Pagie what a good player Gavin was./ He agreed and I said "What a pity he can't use the phone properly" He totally lost it and they had to pull him off me
Quote="Dicky Ticker"Chris Anderson came over at the same time but moved to Halifax shortly after. He only made one full appearance and one as sub. We also signed a Bruce Miller after GM in January 1985 who made 5 appearances and 3 as sub, scoring 6 tries including a hat-trick against Halifax but I can't remeber what he looked like.
One thing I could never understand was why did GM recommend Paul Vannet to us! Was he taking the p?ss?[/quote

No I didn't mean you. As you can tell I didn't really rate Paul Vannet!

Remember a reserve game vs Halifax (I think) with Chris Anderson & Paul Harkin as the halves! Sure we scored over 100 points.
