Enjoyed an evening out in Lancaster on Saturday. Visited some cracking pubs ... examples;

Borough - town pub and resteraunt in Dalton Square
The Sun - bar adjoining the hotel of the same name
White Cross - a renovated canalside warehouse
Yorkshire House - a music pub popular with the Uni crowd

sampled Lancaster Red and Lancaster Amber (not had either before but previously enjoyed Lancaster Black).

Sunday on the way back from Lancaster called in the interestingly named Bart'at in Ilkley and had a pint of the very drinkable Naylors Pinnacle 3.9%.

Visited the three Weatherspoons / Lloyds in town last night ...

Red Lion ... Saltaire Triple Chocoholic 4.8% - delicious, but I only ever have one when I see it.
Old Angel ... Highgate Black Pig 4.4% - effectively a cross between Highgate Old Ale and Highgate Mild and very drinkable.
Gatehouse ... Ossett Millbridge Mild 3.7% - well May is Mild month.

Had some Burtonwood Top Hat real ale at The Queen Victoria in Llandudno yesterday.
Never had it before....brilliant.
For lovers of Llandudno, I have some bad news.....
The stupid Labour ex-government have only put a bank of 50 wind turbines out to sea.
I swear this country has gone barmy with these things....they will not solve our energy needs and are totally inappropriate in such a beautiful setting.

Visited the Pivni World Beer Freehouse at York again yesterday, again imbibing the very nice Thornbridge Ashford (a brown ale at 4.2%).

Judges Cellar Bar had a real ale festival on ... sampled Great Newsome Anniversary Ale 4.0% and Riverhead American Pale Ale 6.3%. Unfortunately, and probably due to the fantastic weather, the ales began to run out.

So on to the Maltings and a pint of the very palatable Ossett Treacle Stout 5.0% followed by a pint of Hanson's Classic Mild 3.3% in the Corner Pin.

Pre-match Sunday ...

Cotleigh Osprey 5.0% in the Gatehouse. The ever-reliable Rudgate Ruby Mild in the Old Angel and a current personal favourite of mine, Yorkshire Grey Best in the Yorkshire Grey (of course).

Pretty dire looking for a decent ale house in Lincolnshire at the weekend, barring the Ship Inn at Surfleet where we stayed overnight. Didn't help that i left the GBG at home

Had a decent Cottage brewed beer plus Slaters ' Queen Bee.

Yesterday. I took a trip out to East Butterwick to the Dog and Gun, where I'm pleased to say I finally bumped into the mildly-eccentric Dixie of Dixie's Marine ales fame and had a very nice pint of his Red Duster. I then sampled Great Heck's White Rabbit, which was a little hoppy (pardon the pun ) for my liking, and the much more palatable, Beartown Bearass at the River Don Tavern, Eastoft, where coincidentally, they are putting up a tremendous fight against proposed windfarms in the area, S-O.

Many years ago I used to frequent the River Don At Eastoft used to be a Darleys pub.

Darley's. Now that was a brew-and-a-half. Used to do a belting one at a pub in Owston Ferry. Good memories.
Went to the Scarbrough Arms at Tickhill and, as a Mexborough lad, am pleased to say imbibed a pint of Concertina Old Dark Attic and very nice too. I also had a Derwent beer which couldn't have set my tastebuds alight cos i can't recall its name

The Beverley had Courage Directors on yesterday evening. Lovely, only bettered by the gorgeous young lady serving it.

Saw a couple of familiar faces in the Yorkshire Grey on Saturday evening (you know who you are guys).

I hope we do .

I am a fan of the Yorkshire Grey Best.

Had a pint of Thorne Mild 4.0% for the first time yesterday (the Gatehouse) - very enjoyable.

Sheffield yesterday ...

RCH East Street Cream 5.0% in the Bankers Draft ... a very nice malty chestnut-coloured bitter from a Somerset brewery whose only ale I'd seen before was Pitchfork.

Bath Ales Gem 4.1% in the Dove & Rainbow ... another malty chestnut-coloured bitter possibly slightly better than the RCH brew. As all the other ales they were serving I'd had before and we'd decided to stop in there a while , I had another and another, oh and another.



Topped off with a pint of Thornbridge Murmansk 7.4% in the Sheffield Tap ... described as a Baltic Porter, it is certainly one to drink in moderation.

get yerselves some good old Suffolk ale from the Adnams brewery - the Southwold bitter is ok but try the Broadside or Explorer draughts if you can find it in your area - nectar....much better than all that northern cats p@@s !

An afternoon in the sunshine yesterday in Holbeck.

Couple of pints of the ever-reliable Leeds Midnight Bell (in the Midnight Bell's courtyard), a pint of Saltaire Triple Chocoholic and a pint of Acorn Barnsley Bitter (at the rear of the Cross Keys ) before venturing back into Leeds.

Pint of Thornbridge Kipling (in the Scarbrough Hotel) a little too fruity for me, then a pint of Black Sheep (in the Prince of Wales which was actually open this time) and finally a pint of Bombadier (in Wetherspoons on the Station - a little unadventurous but the rest were all golden ales and having already had the Kipling I decided one was enough

A couple of pints of the Shoulder of Mutton 'house ale' at Kirk Smeaton yesterday.

Split the evening between the Walkabout and the Sal yesterday.

Walkabout ... truly awful beer (no surprise) [size=110but guaranteed the RL.[/size

Sal ... wonderful beer (Adnams Broadside) complimented with waitress service

whilst we settled back to watch the football.

It's a pity it only lasted 4 minutes.

The Old Angel had the wonderful Midnight Bell on this afternoon and I was introduced to the very nice Black Hole Titan 4.4% in the Gatehouse too.
