| Well, after drinking real ale and the likes for 40 years, tonight I have seen a new innovation in Guiness drinking .Just been to Napoleons casino where I ordered a pint of the black stuff. I was served from a can which was completely flat when poured. The glass was then stood on a type of vibrating plate which, basically shook the glass till a creamy head appeared. Tasted good, just think it might now be impossible to serve it with a shamrock on top!

| Quote ="Wanderer"Bradford was a bit of a let down on the Real Ale front.
After the Turls Green (Lloyds) where Titanic's Ship of Dreams 4.5% was sampled, The Castle was closed (guide says it should have been open), the New Beehive was closed and Haigys was closed (guide said open as did a sign in the window
).
The City Vaults was therefore a breath of fresh air (Black Sheep Bitter) before it was off to the Top House outside Odsal (Black Sheep Bitter).
I did have two excellent pints in Leeds en-route back ...
Midnight Bell in the Brewery Tap (rude not to) and Moor Beer Company Amoor, a very nice porter at 4.5% in the Scarbrough Hotel.'"
Is the Sparrow on your list, best new pub in Bradford in years?

| Enjoyed a couple of very nice pints in Newcastle before todays game ...
Loddon Hullabaloo 4.2% in the Mile Castle and Rudgate Ruby Red 4.4% in the Union Rooms (both pubs are Wetherspoons just 2 mins walk from Central Station).
Just enough time for one in each of the Station bars before returning to Doncaster ...
Caledonian Flying Scotsman 4.0% in the Centurion Bar and GK IPA in the Newcastle Hero.

| The Old Angel had no Real Ale on Wednesday evening
Thank god for Cask Corner ...
Had 3 excellent pints (2 of which were new to me), Theakston Old Peculiar, Idle Brewery Idle Landlord 4.6% and Howard Town Brewery Dark Peak 6.4%.
The Idle Landlord was right up my street being malty and having caramel and coffee flavours.
The Dark Peak is a rum flavoured porter and is one to sip and savour.

| Got a fantastic barrell of home made stout on the go. probably the second best beer ive ever made, flowing down nicely. the best one was a stout i made with grated liquorice sticks (took me two hours to grate the stuff). My bro tasted it and said wow it tastes like theakstons old peculiar. my proudest moment, except it was supposed to be a liquorice stout lol

| Sheffield last night ...
Sheffield Tap ... Mallinsons Castle Hill 4.0% ... the Tap had exclusively Golden and Pale Ales
Bankers Draft ... Conwy Mulberry Dark 3.8% ... enjoyable enough.
Dove & Rainbow ... Acorn Barnsley Bitter 3.8%, Bradfield Farmers Stout 4.5% & Bradfield Bitter 3.9%
(the rock jukebox helped too)
Would have ventured further but for the trams stopping at Cathedral due to engineering work.

| Tried a pint of Marstons Me Duck 3.6% at The Goodfellowship (Hull) last week, very nice. It's described on the internet as:
"Pale yellow ale quaffable and refreshing, a perfect warm welcome where ever it's on sale."

| Nearly forgot ... Last Monday in Leeds ...
Mr Foleys ... Tyne Bank Monument Bitter 4.1%
Victoria Hotel ... Brains Milkwood 4.3% and Thornbridge Frank As Apollo 4.6%
Becketts Bank ... Jennings Sneck Lifter 5.1%
Prince of Wales ... Wychwood Hobgoblin 4.5%
Leeds Brewery Tap ... Midnight Bell 4.8%
Milkwood, Sneck Lifter & Midnight Bell are particular favourites and the Monument was also very nice.
Frank As Apollo was a little too fruity for my taste (but If you don't try you won't know).

| York yesterday ...
Pivni WBF ... Highland Brewing Company (Orkney) St Magnus 5.2%
Last Drop Inn ... Dowbridge Gladiator 4.5%
Golden Ball ... Maxim Maximus 6.0%
Maltings ... Nottingham Brewery Centurion ND 4.9%
York Tap ... Thornbridge Lord Marples 4.0%
The latter pair I've had before with Lord Marples being a particular favourite. Of the other three, marginal preference was for the Dowbridge ale ... not a bad drink all day though.

| If I go to the Bluecoat in Rotherham, I simply cannot resist Acorn Gorlovka if it's on and today was no exception. At 6.5% it is a deceptive, therefore dangerously drinkable porter.
