Hoping to visit a couple of real ales pubs in Hull tonight, will report on here tommorow if manage to.
There was a pub for many years called Durty Nelly's (an Irish pub) which I believe is now a real ale pub called Lion & Key, will have to try that at some point.

Well the Ruddy Ram 4% (black Sheep brewery) that they had in the Sal at the beginning of the week would have pleased you. Very very nice and these Porter type ales are just the ticket for this weather (IMO)

| Had a couple of very nice Christmas ales on Friday - Racey Rudolph 3.5% in Walters, then Shepherd Neame Rudolph's Rewards (I think 3.7%) in Ye Olde White Harte.

| Afternoon lads and lasses. I'm back home at the end of the week and I've got a thirst on. Any recommendations? The best my local has to offer is Deuchars IPA but if I walk a little further I can get a pint of Black Sheep Best. I'll get the train (2 mins) into Wigan centre for a pint in The Anvil, best sup in Wigan by a country mile, so if anyone knows it any tips would be most welcome. If you're ever in there I suggest you try the Allgates All Black 3.6%.
Merry Christmas.

| Clark's Classic Blonde 3.9% in the Trades and Labour Club yesterday afternoon. Not one I would normally select but it can't have been bad, I had a second pint.
Later, a seasonal ale in the shape of Brain's FurKing Good in the Urban Bar. Very nice

I went to Donny last Tuesday where about 20 lads had put their name to go. As usual 7 turned up so off we popped on the train. Started in the Trades and Labour. First time in here and was very impressed, with a group and comedian to follow. After that it was Dive Dive Dive with Cliffy finding out the best Cheap beer on offer. The Castle looked very dodgy in the back room. Was in the Windmill on Friday teatime and Tavern Christmas day. Will be in Far Grange club New Years Eve to see Eddison Lighthouse. Keep on Rocking

| York on Wednesday;
Redwillow Heartless Chocolate Stout 4.9% in the Pivni WBF
York Centurions Ghost Ale 5.4% in the Last Drop Inn
Great Heck Bah Humbug 4.5% in the Guy Fawkes Inn
York Wonkey Donkey 4.5% in the Three-Legged Mare
Partners Shoddy Porter 4.5% in Ye Olde Starre
Black Sheep Ruddy Ram 4.0% in the Maltings
Ilkley Stout Mary 4.5% in the York Tap
Only the two York brews had been sampled before and the Wonkey Donkey not for some time.
Redwillow (Macclesfield) and Partners (Dewsbury) are breweries who's ales I haven't had before and both were very nice indeed.
In fact not an average / poor drink all day.

| The Gatehouse had the very enjoyable Wentworth Plum Pudding 4.7% available on Thursday and the Old Angel had on one of my personal favourites Leeds Midnight Bell 4.8%.
I haven't always been a fan of Springhead's brews but Drop of the Black Stuff 4.0% (in the Yorkshire Grey) was certainly one of the better one's I've sampled.
A brewery whose beers always seem very palatable is Vale (Brill, Bucks) and Cask Corner had available their Good King Senseless 5.2% which certainly maintained my positive view.

| The Dovecote Inn, Laxton, Notts on Friday evening ... A couple of pints of Hartley's Cumbria Way 4.1%.
Despite a number of trips to Cumbria, I don't recall having had a beer from the Ulverston brewery before.

I've had their Laughing Gravy up there before, which was nice. It is also available in bottles, though I've not sampled them.

It is a tough one ... too many to choose from.
Honourable immediate mentions go to ...
Brains The Rev James
Leeds Midnight Bell
Batemans XXXB
Black Sheep Ale (as opposed to the Bitter)
Thornbridge Lord Marples
Adnams Gunhill
... I'll have missed loads of other favourites too.
