Anybody planning to visit CAMRA's National Winter Ale Festival in Manchester next week (21st-24th January)? The glasses will be lined with 1/2 & 1/3 pint measures, so you can samle plenty of brews without drinking too much.

Looks like a visit to the Salutation tomorrow evening in conjunction with the Supporters Meeting.

Had and enjoyed the Elland brew before but the Saltaire Cherry Stout was new to me but a real winner!

Saltaire make an excellent range of beers, their Blackberry Cascade is spot on & doesn't make you look like you are drinking lager & black.
Tomorrow we are off to Rochdale to sample a few of their hostelries.

If you viisit the Cemetery Hotel please let us know whether it is as good as it used to be before the change of landlords. I have heard it is beginning to recover after a bad spell.

Last time the Dons were in Rochdale in July, The Cemetary was closed! However, I called in on Halloween on the way back from Eccleston (Nr Chorley) and they were (quite appropriately

) doing great business.

The halo slipped today and I allowed myself two pints, and potent ones they are too! First up was the 6.5% Elland IPA, which was shockingly drinkable and the even more drinkable Kelham Island Bete Noire( a healthy 5.5%), another stout which knocks Guinness into a cocked hat. Tremendous and well-worth the week's wait

Nice to see you back in the fold.

Anyone been to the new Wetherspoons pub , Old Angel ?

It has three sets of handpumps. There are two downstairs, and one upstairs. There is a set of handpumps as you walk in, and the others are right at the top end of the bar, past the stairs.

Not very different from when it was the Yates in terms of layout, although it does look a smarter. Still not sure where the name comes from though.

I think upstairs is probably the best place to sit, and the beers up there are different too. When i went in last week they had several acorn IPA's on.

Wetherpsoons are doing Greene King IPA at 99p at the minute.
