| Well it looks the takeover is confirmed. From the Yorkshire Post today:
Quote THE takeover of Doncaster Rovers by One Direction pop star Louis Tomlinson and John Ryan is set to be completed this morning.
Lawyers worked frantically behind the scenes last night to broker a successful conclusion and despite suggestions the deal was in the balance, a deal now appears to have been struck.
A press conference is now expected to take place at Wembley at 6pm later today where One Direction play the first of three sell-out concerts to formally announce the takeover.
High-level meetings aimed at finalising the substantial multi-million pound deal took place in Leeds yesterday between representatives of former Rovers chairman Ryan’s fellow major shareholders Terry Bramall and Dick Watson and those representing Ryan and life-long Rovers fan Tomlinson.
After intensive negotiations, a successful conclusion now appears to have been reached, with Ryan and Tomlinson becoming co-chairmen.
Tomlinson, with extensive commitments in the UK, Europe and across the globe with his band, would be a ‘silent partner’ with Ryan effectively running the club on his and the singer’s behalf.
Ryan and Tomlinson, brought up close to Rovers’ former home of Belle Vue in the suburb of Bessacarr, are thought to have first discussed joining forces and launching a bid to take over the club around six weeks ago when secret talks begun.
Tomlinson’s passion for Rovers is such that he made a much-publicised appearance as a substitute for the club’s development squad in a game against near-neighbours Rotherham United in February, with over 4,000 tickets sold for the game.
This came after he ‘signed’ for the club on non-contract terms last August and was given a squad number – having previously played a charity game for his hometown club.
After 15 years at the Rovers helm, Ryan dramatically resigned as both a director and chairman immediately prior to the club’s South Yorkshire derby against Barnsley at Oakwell on November 9 last year.
His decision was prompted by a bitter disagreement with Bramall for several months about the future direction of the club.
A boardroom split ensued between Ryan and Bramall and Watson following the failure to reach agreement with Irish-based consortium Sequentia Capital to take over after they first approached the club last summer with Ryan bringing them to the table.
Ryan labelled the offer from Sequentia, with reported backing from an anonymous wealthy tycoon in Belize, as the ‘deal of the century’ and claimed a number of then top-flight stars in Richard Dunne, Stephen Ireland and Shay Given had agreed to join if the deal went through – with others lined up.
But getting the deal over the line never transpired, with manager Paul Dickov’s summer transfer activity effectively on hold.
Dickov is now awaiting much-needed clarity again regarding a club takeover issue before embarking on his summer transfer plans in earnest.
A number of out-of-contract players who he is keen to keep have been offered new deals, but on reduced terms, with the fear that a number could leave unless the takeover situation is successfully resolved.
It is understood that the playing budget for the club under the new owners would be extremely competitive and aimed at Rovers’ pushing for promotion back to the Championship at the first time of asking.
While all League One sides are bound by what they can spend on players’ wages by the Salary Cost Management Protocol – which currently limits spending to 60 per cent of a club’s turnover – the financial spin-offs from any association of Tomlinson with Rovers would be likely to potentially increase their financial wherewithal.
Despite stepping down from official duties with Rovers last autumn, Ryan retained around his shareholding of around 23 per cent, the same amount owned by construction magnate Bramall and Watson.
Watson has reportedly been urged by his family to put his health before Rovers matters, with the Scot undergoing successful open heart surgery last month and currently recuperating.
With Watson taking a back seat, Bramall has taken the lead regarding negotiations and is believed to have spoken with Ryan a few weeks ago – following a thawing in their relations, which deteriorated after Ryan’s exit from the club last November.
Musician Tomlinson started out as an actor, before getting his big break in the television show The X Factor in 2010 where the 22-year-old was part of boy band One Direction. The group only finished third in the contest, but went on to huge success.
All parties were unavailable for comment last night, with the delicately poised takeover expected to now be officially announced today.'"

| If John Ryan gets his business head on, he should be able to see that getting the Dons into Super League will benefit the town and the stadium income, which must indirectly be beneficial to Donny Rovers too.
If he gets his emotional head on, and sees us as pitch-wreckers that no one in Doncaster wants to support (as he's stated before), the For Sale sign could be going up any time soon.
Does anyone know this Mr One Direction's address? Maybe we need to get him down to the next Dons game and convert him to be a supporter?!
Uncertain times ahead, I'm afraid, until we get clarification on where we stand.

| Louis Tomlinson won't be coming down soon - he's on a World Tour with One Direction, [ileaving John Ryan to make all the decisions.[/i
This is the scenario that John Ryan wanted. Someone who would put up the money (as he has none left) but leave him to make the decisions and get [i[uall[/u[/i the attention.
Terrible scenario for us. We desperately need a statement on this. I hope something is ready to go after the press conference tonight.

| I agree with all the comments everyone has made.
Very worrying.
Not the fact that i agree but the situation is scary at the miniute.
and as DM says if Ryan thinks logically he will keep us and push for superleague where they will make more income than the rovers.
I have said this all along, joining with the rovers is suspect.
if i win the euro millions tonight we will stand on our own two feet.

It does seem a tad ridiculous doesn't it?
However I'm just as worried as everyone else. I'm sure we will survive but at what cost and how much of our progress over the last few years will be lost I have no idea.

| I am not a happy bunny at the moment.
Hope all the hard work and fantastic progress we have made over the last 3 years doesn't go to waste.
Just because of one mans [namely Ryan spite towards the rugby team, he spat his dummy out and walked away once just because he couldn't get his own way, he ought to keep away for good.
he should have the right attitude for all the sport of the town of Doncaster.

| An uncertain future , I agree that a statement on the future of club Doncaster is needed. Having Ryan back in charge I think it's the worst thing that could have happened, I hope that the current owners have some sort of safeguard written into the sale contract.

| Having had a little bit of time to mull this over, I was thinking on the same lines as donny hkr. Surely the present owners will put some safeguards in place in the sale contract to protect club Doncaster?
Maybe something on the lines of the rights for Donny Belles and the Dons to play at the stadium for the next ten years, or something similar.
Looking on the bright side, if we did have to sever ties with Donny Rovers, we're in a better position than ever to attract a buyer. If we were languishing at the bottom of the league with an imminent relegation threat, life would be much gloomier.
Jemmo's quote is a classic about surviving everything except a boy band!
I share everyone else's concerns and hope we get some news soon.

| So we won't know what is happening until at least Wednesday now
Quote The proposed takeover of Doncaster Rovers by One Direction's Louis Tomlinson and the club's former chairman, John Ryan, will not be going ahead today.
There were hopes that the deal would be concluded by this evening.
ITV Calendar understands that the current board have agreed to sell, but a last minute intervention by Louis' management team has led to what is hoped will just be a brief postponement.'"
This is an absolutely perfect story for the Free Press. All they ever cover are the Rovers and Louis Tomlinson.

| Call me a tad negative - won't be the first time today, but I just get an odd feeling at moment...
Loads of injuries, no home games for a while, DR seemingly disappeared with Hull, players having left.....
Despite all the great effort and results it just seems like we are up against it...
Wait and see.....

| The reason Bramall and Watson wanted to be involved with the Dons was because it made good business sense to create Club Doncaster - not because they had a love of rugby. I very much doubt they'd be interested in the Dons as a separate entity.
It would take a massive turn-around in opinion for John Ryan to embrace the Dons. He questioned the decision to form Club Doncaster very vociferously asking the question, "Who really wants to watch rugby in Doncaster?"
He obviously saw the Dons as a drain on the Rovers resources - not a way of increasing revenue to Club Doncaster.
The key is whether there are clauses in the buy out deal that require Mr Ryan to continue with Club Doncaster for X number of years, or whether he has the right to disband it immediately.
I hope the present owners have enough respect for the Dons and the supporters not to sell us down the river. I hope Mr Ryan is big enough to accept that Club Doncaster is the right way forward and for him to want to embrace it willingly - possibly accepting that his previous comments were made in haste on the back of his fall out with the other Rovers' shareholders.
Interesting and worrying times ahead ...

I'm not sure, but I believe Terry Brammalls had representation at a fair few games this season.

| Its an absolute joke. If he loved the Rovers that much there would be no issue.
Also in my opinion the term "image rights" is used as just another tax fiddle.I wonder if it will state into which country (or channel island even) the bank account is where the image rights will be paid.

| I get the impression it is Psyco digging their heels rather than him in particular. They own the image rights to One Direction and they want to squeeze every penny from it they can before one of them ends up face down a mound of coke
