Saw that Bruce. Great idea but my recollection of Darleys Beer is a very sore head when I started tasting it as an apprentice at Dunstans shipyard in Thorne. Apparently it was a totaly different drink if you went on a brewery trip to the crap that was sold in the Red Bear, Green Dragon, White Hart. Winning Post, etc. I may even buy a few shares after ive had a tipple.

Vicious circle, if you buy shares your dividend is more drinks. Actually that sounds quite appealing

Cantley is populated by 'Estate Pubs'.
The Paddock, The Two Palfreys, Beecher's Brook and the like.
The Flying Childers and the The Punches are not far away.
I don't know that any of them sell decent real ale....and that's why I mentioned the Salutation... which does.

It's a proper pub....where you can be sick on the floor and do no damage.

I returned to the Salutation last year for our 30th school leaving do, for some reason there are lots of pictures of me looking like a prat.

Confession ... Didn't make it to any of Warrington's real ale pubs yesterday.

Interestingly, the Lord Rodney across from the stadium had handpumps, but when I enquired, I was told 'no, we don't use them'.

Landed at the Ritz in Lincoln ( a JDW ) and sampled Orkney Dark Island, a very pleasant stout, Sidewinder and Bear Island ( Newby Wyke, a Lincolnshire brewer ), both pleasantly citrus flavoured. Nice to see they are also supporting Oldershaw's, a Grantham brewer too, with Ahtnum Gold and Alchemy, together with Grainstore, Rutland Beast, which was unfortunately, "Coming Soon"

Had the Orkney Dark Island in Leeds a couple of weeks ago - a very enjoyable drink.

Yesterday was like supping in a desert real ale-wise near the ground.
Had some nice Tetley's in The Original Wire pub about 100 yards or so from the ground.
One of those old fashioned pubs of yesteryear with lots of small rooms.
A proper pub.

You should have gone to The Tavern, a ten minute walk from the station, superb. Warringtons top real ale pub.

That was the plan but the late arrival of our train put paid to that.

It used to be a good pub, with a selection of real ales. Ironically, I think that building the rugby stadium opposite ruined it. When the pub changed landlords two or three years ago the new landlord realised that he could make more money catering for hordes of keg-drinking rugby supporters than by providing good quality hand pulled beers for the civilised connoisseurs. It is a sad loss.

It still has at least 5 or 6 different ales every week.

Well they had none on Sunday when it mattered.

I can concur, they had no real ales and as I said earlier, I was told that they don't use the handpumps.

Srange that , considering me 'n' our Steve had a couple of well decent pints of (don't quote me ) ' Invincible 4.2%' (handwritten on one of the aforementioned handpumps.)

No mate, before , and it really was a cracker, but neither of us can confirm the name or brewery, I rang him before posting tonight.

Must have ran out. Why they just couldn't say so is beyond me!
