A win is a win, and is the most important aspect of any game in professional sport, however even taking into account the conditions ,today doesn't inspire me nor does it give any optimism for us gaining promotion. It may be a little early to suggest a change in our coaching set up but performances need to improve.

We have been told our budget has increased and is one of the highest in the division after Toronto, if this is true then like most other sports the coach comes under scrutiny if performances don't match the money invested.

OK it was wet .....
So I suppose that is the excuse the coach will make.
But seriously .............WTF??????

I feel sorry for whoever had the unenviable task of choosing a man of the match.

Full credit to Coventry, they never gave up and certainly looked the more enthusiastic, especially in the second half.

Our experience shaved it but not by much. We spent far too long looking rudderless with no spark or direction from the three quarters.

I'm getting bored watching games now.

We won in difficult conditions. We restricted them to one try. They're the positives. The negative aspect is that there's plenty to be concerned about.

Many of our attacking plays are awful. We look very disjointed. We should have scored on a few occasions when we had opportunities to get the ball out wide but we either read the situation wrong or the execution was poor. I was hoping that I'd come away from today's game a little more optimistic about our promotion chances but I didn't.

There is much work to be done....

As i said last week centres and wingers redundant, and we will go nowhere with this coach.

Yes the conditions were not ideal , we need someone to get the backs going . Miller tried , Howden did 1 lovely kick out wide which lead to a try.
It was boring & that style of rugby will not bring back the fans .

I thought we had halfback and centre problems, sorry to have to say but this idea we had about forward power has also evaporated.

There are some good players in this side though, I would guess about 8 of the 25.
Organisation though is completely shot.

I feel sorry for Charlie Martin ... he is better than this garbage.

Let's face it if it had not been for Coventry's number 5 and his cock-ups it would have been a damn sight worse.

Having slept on yesterdays game , a couple of points 1) yes the conditions were poor but I was very disappointed with a fair number of the players yesterday ! We should have won by 50 no disrespect to Coventry .
2) Was quite pleased with the team selected but we do not seem to have a plan B , was Castle injured he did 20 mins & no more .

The try Coventry scored was due to some shocking defensive work, we were still in the tunnel . GT could leave out several players after yesterday & there could be no complaints !

Can I ask in your opinion was that because it was 'just Coventry' in the players minds or maybe a general apathy that was in the team.

We are missing a bit of flair in the forwards which Tonks & may be Hanson could offer .

I don't think there was any apathy in the players' minds. After all, they're all playing for their places in next week's team.

Sadly I don't think our forwards are going to be as dominant as I'd hoped they may be. I had exactly the same feelings at the start of last season. I thought we'd boss teams upfront. Playing against the youngsters in the friendlies seems to have twice lead me to believe we're better than we actually are. When we come up against men, we can't dominate them in the same way and we don't look anywhere near as good.

Maybe the conditions were tough yesterday and that played a part but I certainly feel less enthusiastic about our promotion chances after yesterday's game than I did before it. Defensively we didn't give much away but only scoring 4 tries against Coventry (no disrespect meant because I thought they tried hard and gave a decent account of themselves) was poor. Help was provided by Coventry mistakes (sorry number five!) too. We looked awful in attack.

Is this the fault of the coach or is it the fault of the players who are struggling to execute the plays they've practiced? I don't know.

If we don't improve I suspect we'll get beaten by some teams in this league that we ought to be beating.

GT has a lot of work to do. I hope he's up to the challenge. We need to win the next three league games with improved performances before going into the Toronto match.

I thought there was an air of disappointed realisation among the players yesterday that they are not going to sweep all before them and that this season is gonna be a lot harder than some may have thought.

To be fair to Carl , in the dugout, he has been stressing its going to be tough this season & the players have to turn up for matches.
That message has to be relayed to the players by the coaching staff. Something wasn't right yesterday .
