| I've not commented on this thread as yet as to me its all rumour and supposition but I just have to say I would definitely have tom play and think the negativeness from Olddon with regards his defence is rubbish - if we are allowing ourselves to be honest here then Lee was often at fault defensively - infact tbh I consider it the only weakness in Lee's game - personally I don't see how you can blame all the leakage down that side to Tom - also didn't help that Robbo was injured for a while as he gets through a lot of work down that flank in defence. Now I hasten to add I'm also not trying to say everything is Lee's fault either, I just think its naive to put all our improvement in that department down to Tom's injury.
If from what we've heard before all this, that Tom is keen to play with us and waterman, TM and Fran Welsh are all interested in signing then I say lets get them all signed up and end this rumour mill.
EDIT: ps just remembered if we are talking about the kids defence have we all suddenly forgot that length of the field try saving tackle against South Wales at home?

I was going to post the same.
There is nobody, repeat nobody, else in the Dons team who could have done that!

this forum is all about opinions and in mine toms only weakness is his defence when he has a big burly rampaging towards him as he undoubtably will next season in champ 1 they will go right through him as was proved early season when he filled in at full back he did not last long in that position , as for his cross field tackle the hard part was catching the lad and tom was outstanding in catching the lad but he did tackle him from behind and into touch, having said all that i would dearly love to see tom in a dons shirt next season tom has no size about him if he was bigger he would not be as quick he knows the game and feeds very well of cooke as i said previous i would love him to play for the dons next seaon cos he is a very exciting player, i aint watched the dons for 58 years and learnt nowt , rubbish indeed

Except for a centre to be charging at him something must have gone wrong on his inside either waterman or further infield. Also neither China or Sanderson would be able to cope with the scenario you describe

| As for if Tom was bigger he would be slower, there is not much logic in that.
All the fastest men in the world at sprints are muscular power-houses.
So Tom could get more muscular, be a more competent tackler and still be like lightning.

Is that what I was doing?
Crikey!
I thought that I was pointing out the difference between muscular bulk and tub of lard bulk.

| so essentially he's a lightening fast winger who scores tries for fun and kicks goals from anywhere but may need some work on his defence. Bustin .....if that's the case I really hope he's a fev lad next year.

If he is, you'll love him.
And we will only have ourselves to blame as he plunders a hat-trick against us at the Bigfellas.

What about Sunday's game?
Is he selected?
It's important!
Because without him to go into what will be a tight match with a goalkicker who only converts about 3 out of 5 kicks is tempting fate.

Quote Tom Hodson said "I'm really looking forward to taking up my contract with Rovers[size=150 for the 2013 season[/size.'"
He's signed up for the 20 13 season, does that mean he can't play in the 2012 season for us?
Because if it does, and he is a Fev player NOW, it stinks, and I will be an ex-Donny supporter.
I would be grateful if someone could clarify this please?

| That's a fair point but I doubt Tony Miller would pick him given the circumstances. Can't say I would either.
Look at it from Fev's point of view. Would you want a signing of yours to risk an injury which could potentially prevent him from fulfilling his contract?
I agree it would be nice to see Tom go out with a bang, but bearing in mind he is not match-fit, and his impending departure, I don't think it's worth the risk.

Someone very close to him said he was match fit and raring to go for the Dons.
Only last Friday in fact.
I am not slightly interested in Fev's view.
They have either signed him with immediate effect in which case he's history, or they have signed him for next season in which case they can't restrict what he does until then.
So, I will ask the question again of those in the know ... which is it?

I think last week was more of a 'not wanting to change a winning side' decision.. I don't know anything otherwise.

Yes and I can understand that philosophy, it happens to be mine as well.
But now we are a losing side and things have changed, not least with the loss of an influential half back and half decent kicker.
I feel like I am labouring here under a misapprehension, that of thinking that Tom Hodson is available to help us get through to the final and then perhaps win it, when in fact he could be sitting somewhere, feet up, an ex-Donny player.
Someone put me out of my misery please!

| There is a transfer deadline for the current season which means that players cannot swap clubs at this time fo the year. Agreeing a contract for next season means the player can only actually sign once their current contract expires.
It was reported in The Star that Tom would be in line to play (and kick goals) this weekend in the Workington game.
I suspect that Tony Miller hasn't wanted to change a winning team to allow Tom back in, which could also have been one of the reasons Deano left, but now we've got to make changes due to Paul Cooke being out.
I hope the crowd get behind Tom on Sunday as he's played a very big part in our success this season.
Hope this helps puts your mind at rest SO!
Good luck to the lads for Sunday!!
