| I think this will be the hardest game all season.
But if the guys put the same effort in as they did against Barrow, I see no reason why we wouldn't win it.
Good luck to the whole squad and club tonight you have had a brilliant season so far.
4 of us will be there tonight.

| Handicap Betting ...
Dons -4pts 10/11
Workington +4pts 10/11
Handicap Draw 16/1
(all the major bookmakers quoting the same handicap and same prices with exception of Stan James who have the same handicap but have the draw at just 12/1).
Match Betting ...
Dons 8/13 (Bet365, Paddy Power & Ladbrokes ... elsewhere 4/7)
Workington are best priced at 7/5 (Boylesports) but generally 11/8 or 13/10
The Draw generally 18/1 (with one or two exceptions).

For info, obviously the not so legal methods can not be discussed on here, however Premier Sports now have a PPV streaming service here:
www.premiersports.tv/top/streaming/
I have never used it, so don;t know the quality, but I will probably be giving it a try tonight

| Quote ="originaldragon"A Workington supporter has claimed on facebook that 2000 Workington supporters are coming tonight. Very much doubt that as there were only 500 supporters at a home game. So a 3 1/2 trip on Thursday night really does not suggest this level of support.
In any case we really need to be loud and proud Dons supporters tonight. Lets hope that there is a strong turnout.
However I don't want to see lots of red and white stripes. I want to see the Blue and Gold.'"
they,ve never had 2000 fans nevermind take that amount away.they only took 300-400 to their dismal grand final last season.

Maybe not in your short life time sonny but they used to have good crowds back in the 90's. Quite a bitter first post of yours though.
I've been told by a mate in Cumbria that Town have 2 coaches and a few cars making the journey from Workington.

| I appreciate that cases are different, but I would have thought that players with leg injuries lose their match fitness much quicker than those with hand injuries, simply because the latter can still run about and get the old cardiovascular thing going for stamina.
So on that basis I rather hope that Cowling is playing tonight (broken finger) rather than Cunningham (ankle) Edwards (knee) or Lawton (back). Because this game will find out not fully fit players fairly quickly. IMHO of course.
I can see another holding on exercise coming up, especially if our main strike player is wasted at full back. Which I don't expect by the way.

I understand what you're saying, but I'd be quite interested to see Waterman at full back, given the attacking freedom that offers, enabling him to chime into the line at different places instead of limiting him to one channel. But I also don't think he will be full back or he would not have been mentioned as an option in the Stir report

At centre Waterman has scored about three times more tries than Butterfield has at full back. These are two very good players. That suggest to me that the way Dons play Waterman would be diluted by two thirds.
I also think, and I know I shouldn't , that Waterman's defensive skills and his ability to turn and go backward are nowhere near his ability at going forward.
I refer the right honourable gentleman to one or two calamities down our left flank in defence, notably against Rochdale.
That's why he should stay at centre.
I also believe that the combination that yields the fewest players playing out of position is best. Or at least not moving far. Wingers have to field balls like full backs do.
To me that means Sando at full back.

| Managed to watch most of the game from a 'not so legal' source. A few observations;
a) Fattest Dons team I have ever seen in my lifetime. Both a weakness and a strength. Strength when it comes to games like today which was won around the ruck, will become a weakness higher up the leagues.
b) Mark Calderwood was a joke today. Worst of all the ex-super league players on show.
c) I am not neutral but I must say the ref was quite biased towards us tonight.
d) I also learned that the top 4 go up yet there is still a play-off system. Is this right? I only half caught it on the commentary? I think the RFL generally run the sport very well but they must of come up with this on the back of a fag packet.

| Fantastic game and don't think the ref was onsided, what I will say is some of workington's vocal support was over the top, I was wacked round the head by some drung erk with a stuffed toy sheep from behind, which made me spill mu beer, and threatened in the bar by some youth with glasses on young enough to be almost my grandson, having said that if he was my Grandson he would have got a clip but because he was a visiting supporter I told him to watch his mouth and walked off.

| Well done boys , we out bullied there big pack . Never seen Cookie do as many tackles. Waterman deserved MoM , but Castle & Robbo both had big games. Sanderson deserves a mention also , well they were all outstanding .

A fairly ineffective tactic then - in fairness to him I've never seen him do a 'Holroyd' and shirk his defensive duties. Whenever the big lads come at him he fronts up and takes it.

And he had a 'quiet' word with Waterman when started getting lippy with one of the Town guys.
Top performance all round. Well done to all.

| Glad to see a bit of humble pie being eaten on here tonight, particularly by Stand Offish with reference to Waterman at full back. Nowt wrong with that we all get stuff wrong occassionally, but he didn't put a foot wrong all night and was easily the best player on the park, although Sanderson, Castle and even moreso Robinson were standout tonight. Defensively the entire squad was superb and I personally was disappointed (as I hope the players are) when they scored as I don't think they deserved it and nilling them would have sent out an even stronger message to the Championship next season.
Paul Cooke had his worst game to date, and I say that based on only one part of his usual performances-his kicking in open play today was crap compared to his usual near perfection. Their gameplan of running at Cooke (as mentioned earlier) is strange as despite being the best half back in the division by a country mile he's also 6' 5" and about 18 & 1/2 st so hardly an easy target!
Our only attacking flaw was not constantly attacking the woeful Mark Calderwood who even at his peak?? was a poor player when it came to defence. He couldn't tackle the Sunday dinner or catch pox in a Thai brothel!
Happy days when all we have to grumble about is not nilling the 2nd placed team in the league!

| The Dons tackling won them the game tonight and I think it showed in the last quarter. I mean big lads running against you all game, it has got to have an effect and I think we were very tired at the end and Worky got on top.
Luckily they didn't get a bonus point. That would not have been a fair reflection of the game.
But only desperate tackling prevented it.
The ref was a jobsworth. I am sorry, I try not to criticise refs, but he heaped some pressure on us that was totally unwarranted.
Yet Worky were laying on all game relatively unpunished.
Yet I wish them well, particularly in their game against Barrow.

| best performance of the season so far in the biggest game of the season so far, 1-17 outstanding but I must admit when I saw that Waterman was full back I said not good, he soon proved me wrong did not drop a thing, always in the right position and deserved his try, disapointed when they scored as we had defended superbly, One more point and we are goin up ONE HAPPY DONS FAN
