| Don't worry I am working on something for the Dons (and Donny Rovers) along the same lines, but this will be a locally brewed beer.

| There's a shop in Runcorn (I don't know if you have a branch in Donny) called BM. They sell all sorts of stuff at cheap prices, but they have a beer section selling ale you don't see in Asda, Morrisons etc. If you can find it, there's a beer called 'Tanner's Jack' for a quid a bottle, which is excellent and a Cornish ale called 'All For One' which has a dry after taste and goes down very well. That one is £1.29.
Anyway lads, if you also follow Rovers, all the best for Sunday.

The Woolly Sheep? I concur with that. Stayed there for one night in Sept 2006. The Taylor's Landlord is about as good as it gets, as was the Ram Tam and the Gold when I was there. Never met a ghost but then the beer isn't headless

| Visited a couple of places yesterday which have been previously mentioned on this thread;
Jemmy Hirst at the Rose and Crown (Rawcliffe)
and
The Windmill Inn (Thorne)
Wouldn't put anyone off visiting either, but slight prefence was for the Jemmy Hirst.

Good choice Had a pint or several of Rutterkin, a pale tasty beer brewed by Brewsters of Grantham at my local Wetherspoon's.

| Called at the Cemetary Pub in Rochdale on the way to the match on Friday. Had a pint of Flowers IPA which was very nice as expected and a pint of Green Mill Chief (a local brew) which I also enjoyed.

| Haven't had a pint of Flowers' for yonks. Any idea who brews it now?
Last I heard it was a Whitbread brew but I'm going back some years.
At the weekend, I had an excellent pint of Ufford Summer Sunset plus Northumberland's Legends Of The Wear and Dent's comically-named but very tasty, Sheep and Shearful.
Today, it's been Bateman's Valiant and Oldershaw's Regal Blonde, an excellent brew for you lighter-ale lovers. Very hoppy and flowery.
Not much data online on the Green Mill Brewery. What was the ABV, Wanderer, and what's the style?

I believe that Whitbread still brew Flowers IPA.

The Green Mill Brewery is based at Queensway Snooker Club, Green Mill, Rochdale OL11 2LS but doesn't appear to have it's own website. The Chief was a Pale Ale at 4.2%.

| Possibly the most interesting pint of the weekend was Cairngorm Wildcat a malty, full-bodied strong bitter at 5.1% which was sampled at the Water House in Durham (a Wetherspoons).

| For anyone travelling to Barrow on Friday, the Ambrose Hotel on Duke Street is close to the ground and serves meals as well as having a number of real ales.

Would that I were able to visit this Friday night! The price of being a weekend dad, I suppose

Very kind of you . My lad fancies a visit to the Lake District, so it may well have to encompass Barrow some time in the future.
In the meantime, have just sampled Anker Bruin, a delightful brown-hued beer from Belgium, two Milestone brews, Old Home Wrecker ( recommended ) and a blonde beer, which had a vinegary after-taste ( a bit disappointing ) Also, the beautifully citrusy Cascade Pale Ale by Acorn.

| Sadly, we didn't make it to the Ambrose on Friday evening. A few hold-ups on the M62 resulted in a later arrival in Barrow than planned so it was just a quick drink in the Furness near the ground - maybe next time?

| Coastal visit last Sunday (no rugby) - Hornsea and Withernsea. Did manage to visit a couple of pubs which are not too far from Withernsea and are mentioned in the 2008 GBG.
The first was the Plough Inn at Hollym (adjacent to Withernsea RUFC), where I sampled Slaters Premium a pale brown malty / caramel ale from the Slaters Brewery in Stafford.
Then it was on to the Station Hotel at Patringham which has been completely refurbished in recent years and leans significantly towards its food with two seperate eating areas. Here I sampled another beer which I hadn't previously. This time it was Frothingham Best from the Great Newsome Brewery at South Frodingham. This was a dark amber best bitter with an initial malty flavour leading to a smooth bitter aftertaste.
Both Pubs worth a visit if you're out that way and I wouldn't put anyone off either of the ales.

| I have just been introduced to a lovely bottled beer which is available from Morrisons as part of their 4 for £5 offer. The beer in question is Joseph Holts Maplemoon a premium ale with a hint of maple! Alleged to be the only maple flavoured bottled beer on the market.

The Devonshire Cat in Sheffield. Has 12 guest beers plus an glass fronted open beer cellar which houses the largest range of world beers I have ever seen.
This is a pub worth making a de-tour for. www.devonshirecat.co.uk

| Spent a good percentage of last nights drinking time at Mount Pleasant supping Worthys so it was quite a pleasant end to the day to have the last drink in Harrys Bar in Wakefield - a nice pint of Titanic White Star.

| Just spent the last week in Norfolk which is brilliantly served by Woodfords Brewery with Wherry being found almost everywhere and the occasional pint of Nelsons Revenge. Both very nice indeed
Also stumbled on a small family brewery near Reedham which supplied the locan pub. Pint of Porters by the Humpty Dumpty Brewery was a nice touch for likers of the darker licquorice ales
