| On this day 73 yrs ago today 18th August 1951 the Dons played their first ever game defeating Wakefield Trinity 10-3 the game was played at the York Rd Greyhound Stadium Attendance 10,000 (estimated) Scorers for Dons Tries Guest.Tynan.Goals Griffiths 2.The Dons kicked off with only 12 players on the pitch because scrum half Jim Tynan had got held up in the volume of traffic heading to the ground on his journey from his Manchester home hence the reason why his picture only appears as an inset on the match day team photograph.
