Defence was woeful in the first half but certainly improved in the second half. When compared to the drubbing by a similar squad last year it shows good pre season preparation and augers well for the season ahead.
Came away from the game feeling really positive today and looking forward to the next game.Haven't felt like this about the Dons for quite some time. The defence was a bit shaky in the first half but the second half performance was immense. Some really stand out individual performances and the whole team looked fit, strong and committed. Looking far better than at the same point last year and got a really good feeling about doing well in the league.
That was my first look at the new squad and was pretty much as expected. Out forwards are spot on, I have no issues with them at all. Genuine strength in depth from 8 to 13. I could probably name 2 full packs I'd be happy with. Our props are going to be a real headache for some teams. eg Starting withing Feka and Braham, take them off and then bringing on Thackeray and Aizue is going to terrify some other front rows. Then for good measure Mark Castle and Connor Scott could be running at you. The times we had Thackeray running off Feka shoulder yesterday was causing problems every-time, team need to double or triple up so that last thing they want is someone like Thackeray as the support runner.
Most of the new lads looked like they can offer us something, Martin and Hanson particularly so. Miller was very vocal organising the players, which i like to see.
I still have doubts about our creativity, although this did look better than last year. And the transition between the forwards and the three quarters looked slow. I aso worry about our scrambling defence, when teams get behind us it looks like they will score.
Generally happy though, looked a handful and have more to come. My MOM was Jamie Thackeray followed by Martin
Some good points Jemmo , Russ Spiers also comes into the mix.
With Ryan Wright playing much better to date & Cross adding some pace at 9 it all looks good . If Lancaster comes in on a long term deal that will add more competition in the outside backs also.
We really need Hedges firing this season & a fit Howden.
4 of the players used v the Dons have signed 1 month loan deals with Bradford . This will boost Bradford's squad to play HKR on Sunday in round 1 of the Championship.
