| Oldham St Annes 40-4 Bentley.
Bentley entered the Challenge Cup for the first time in their 58 year history, but the National Conference side had a little bit too much pace and power for the lowest ranked club in the competition, and having grabbed the lead in the second minute swept into a 26-0 lead after just 28 minutes, although the scoreline did flatter them somewhat, and it remained that score at the half. Bentley just couldn't break the Lancashire teams defensive line despite having a prolonged spell camped on the hosts line.
The second half was much closer as 'Big Red' Chris Hemmings drove his men forward, got into the faces of St Annes but again they were unlucky not to get a score as they were held up across the line on four occasions before they finally had the final say, Craig Whincop grabbing the last try of the match.
Hemmings and tireless centre Chris Wrigglesworth shared the M.O.M. award.
Bentley had five players (Dougie Reid, Neil Thorne, Mickey Rogerson, Josh Richards and Danny Royle) missing today and who knows what may have happened if they had been available.
A great day was had by all.
