Promotion is now based predominantly on off-field crietria. Widnes tick most boxes (to coin a phrase) in this sense. Widnes should be promoted. It really is that simple.
Like Starbug said, it's the system that is wrong and not the problem of Widnes however ridiculous we all know it is.

Here's how i see it. When we had promotion and relegation, who got promoted, the team who was the best throughout the year, the most consistant team that finished top? No. It could be a team who finish 6th and have a couple of good weeks on the pitch, is this fair? Make your own opinions on that.
Franchise system is based on a team that within a 2 year period has made a GF or won the NRC, so they musn't be too bad on the field. It's also based on the structure of the club, finances, stadia, crowds, youth setup. Criteria which if a club do have, will help them progress once in SL.

You will without a doubt be in SL in 2013 but not through "on field merit". The general overwhelming consensus is that getting into SL through =#FF0000removed off Dickie and his cronies in Huddersfield makes our beloved sport a laughing stock.
Barrow Raiders should THROUGH MERIT be in SL this season and Featherstone Rovers THROUGH MERIT going up next season. Widnes should be wallowing in The Championship until iyour Chairman puts his money into a decent WINNING squad. Bleat on about Des Johnston as much as you like but he hasn't had the luxury of a Council built, RENTED stadium to ease the burden and help finance a Youth setup. What he has done is give the rugby loving people of Barrow a team worth watching. I'd be embarrased to be accepted into SL after having won what is basically a tin cup that only offers a route to SL in order to keep the sponsors happy and add a bit of meaning to it !
You lot on here moan and bitch about player purchases that TOC & Paul Cullen have made but in the next breath are saying that the very same person(s) will buy you a top squad full of Aussies when you get to SL ! Make your minds up.'"

Why didn't you just do the same... there is no rule to say that only Widnes can strengthen their squad with these players??
