Following an incident on Saturday night Widnes Vikings have suspended two players from the first team squad for seven days pending an investigation.

Club officials viewed CCTV footage with the management and security staff on Sunday before making the decision to suspend the pair.

Vikings' Sporting Director Terry O'Connor said, "The players have to realise that the way they conduct themselves off the pitch is as important, if not more important, than the way they conduct themselves on the pitch. They are role models and every time they are out in public they are representing themselves and Widnes Vikings".

"When an important part of their job as professional sportsmen is to work in the schools in the Halton area what kind of message does this sort of behaviour send out ?

"Despite reports elsewhere, no players were arrested and on behalf of the Club I would like to apologise to the owners, staff and customers of Bar Reef as well as to the police who were called to deal with the incident. We will not tolerate behaviour of this kind.

"I have made it quite clear to the players that socialising in Widnes town centre is no longer an option for them and they will face disciplinary action should they do so."
