| Quote ="bestgameofall"Hope you don't minds my lurking on here, was interested to see Widnes fans' responses to the situation.
Its good to see a positive reception to a British coach. We tend to write of a Superleague coach after one club and always focus on the recent past rather than looking at their careers as a whole.
Things had clearly gone stale at Wire under Cullen, but his record of developing the club was impressive. Down under, when a coach gets a bit stale at a club, they tend to move onto the next one, and revitalise whereas British SL coaches just get written off.
He'd be a good choice all round I think. The other thing to mention on his CV I suppose would be the development of the club whilst he was there. He wasn't necessarily pivotal to that, but was around during a period of revitalisation (god "vitalise" must be my word of the day ). Widnes should and will be going places in the next few seasons and I think he's got the right ingredients to be at the helm.'"
'Revitalisation' has been going on since last year. We already have an all-round set up that is better most SL clubs. The youth development is programme we now have in place is probably unique in the game and is regarded as ground breaking.
There is nothing Paul Cullen could add to that, except coach a winning senior side. That's all that's missing now. The only question is, can Paul Cullen do that?
Personally I have my doubts.

To be honest though Pepe is there a great deal of difference between say Cullen and Jon Sharpe?
Any coach that we employ next will most likely be out of work because they have either been sacked or left a club of there own accord ie Hanley.
A tough choice to make and im glad it isnt me on the panel choosing.

Please explain these Jesus like miracles?
He's assembled a decent enough squad for this year but is totally unproven, he was a good player for us your correct in that but he remains unproven as a coach.

Yes.
Jon Sharp was able to create a well organised side with a lot less funds than Cullen had.
That's what Widnes need. A coach who can organise the team. A John Kear type coach with a great tactical acumen, who can spot a good player at a reasonable price and work with what he has. We shouldn't be bringing in coaches because they have a reputation of getting big name stars to throw the ball around. Any fool can do that.
I think Jon Sharp is the closest thing, who may possibly be available, that can do that.

Steve O'Connor has said they haven't been looking for anyone yet, and will be going through a selection process when they do. He also said he's in no rush to replace Ste Mac. So I doubt anyone has been approached at all.

What could he improve, other than on the field, first team performance?
Do you even know what has been going on at the club since SOC arrived?
No one is perfect, but I'd say off the field we are approaching being a match for anyone.

I recall saying in the dim and distant past about 4 years ago, and prior to Mac coming that we should have brought Sir Douglas back as Director of Football with James Lowes underneath him to blood him through.

| JUST out of curiosity, a vast majority was saying we wanted Kelly back a couple of days ago, IF you think, Neil Kelly did a job with us not many could do as im sure everyone will admit. Paul Cullen took wire from the utter B O LL OCKS of the Sl from the season they survived on the last day- ( or something like that ) to A top 6 team nearly every season, brought some fantastic talent in but unfortunatly it didnt gel and cest la vie.
My point being is that i think he would be a good appointment and i would welcome it. And... he had his half backs winning games week in week out with excellent kicking strategy etc. I thought id post a valid point although il get some ar se hole disecting each sentence and giving sarcastic replies

You're absolutely right and I came along to a few games last year and was really impressed with the whole set up (shame the RFL didn't do onsite inspections of facilities and community programmes plus match days as part of the licence process) . I didn't mean to imply that the club needed work in that direction, but rather that it was already well underway and ongoing.

| cullen would do a top job for you he won't take you right to the top like we found out at wire but he will get the most out of the sort of players you've got in your squad and will prioritise bringing kids through as long as they are good enough...he'll take you into superleague in 3 years time with a strong squad and would be perfect for the first 3 or 4 years in superleague
and i for one would love to see him do well it would wipe the smile of the loser fans who booed him out of the club last year...as long as wids don't end up above us in super league
