We don't have an academy. We put our money into first team, won the league. You put your money into the academy, won their league. We are using our First Team success as the basis for our license bid, you are using your academy as the basis for your license bid. However our boss isn't claiming that these players are going to be playing for England in three years time.
FYI, the last time we did run an academy we produced several players who have played international rugby this off-season and a few more who were on the fringe of selection to the England team.

| Your first point is well just stupid tbh and completely different to ours.
Your second however is spot on, so if you could of achieved that, why shouldn't Widnes aim to do the same?

I must have dreamt this then , but I was under the impression Featherstone won the league. You won an end of season play off comp.

Short term thinking.
Quote you are using your academy as the basis for your license bid. '"
Long term visionary.
I know which one I'd go with.
It is ludicrous to suggest that your first team squad will form the basis of your Super League bid. The majority of those players would not make it into a Super League team.
In any case, there's a number of academy lads who have been promoted to our first team and have staked regular starting places. Therefore our first team is indeed playing a role in our franchise bid and demonstrating that our focus is firmly on developing our own talent for the long term future. Nothing you can say about Halifax can rival that.
Perhaps if you stopped sucking on sour grapes, your opinions might not be so confused and deluded.

I think my fellow posters with an amazing ability to look beyond the next two seconds with a view to seeing the bigger picture have put better any reply to your post than I could.
P.S. Well done for producing internationals in the past, hope both of us are dining at the top table sometime soon .

| To be fair Fax & Barrow have it spot on... The RFL introduce a system part designed to stop sides spending big in a short period to get promoted and then have little to back it up long term... Why I am 100% confident in our bid

| You should be 100% confident in your bid, especially after Wakefield's bad news on Tuesday. Surely they are dead in the water now as far as SL in 2012 goes?
Just be careful though and don't get over condfident, it's the RFL you are dealing with.

I don't think it matters to us who goes down, one was always going to and we're on the up. Obviously, we'd all have prepared the process to be fairer and more equitable, but meh. We've been cheated before now it's somebody elses turn. No one gave two hoots when we went down.

Yeah you are right.
The one you have attached is the Youth Squad so lads who are going to be playing U 15's and U16's this coming season. We had Gilmore and Lewis Whitty selected last year and Jon Rigby who we later signed played but as a Warrington player.
Jack Owens missed out on selection last year but rightly has made it into the Academy side this year after some great performances stepping up to 18's. I think im right in saying that we didnt have anybody selected at this age group at the start of last season although there where changes to the squad that was announced at the start of the season to that which took on the Aussie schoolboys.
Good luck to them all. Gilmore and Alex Brown get some decent coverage already but it's nice to see Declan Hulme in there after having a great year in the centres. Still think there are some that can count themselves unlucky not to be included and im sure if a few more of the 16's had stepped up to get games at 18's they would have been up there for selection.
Still, great for the lads and the club as a whole especially working within the restrictions that the Championship provides.
I dont think we will see Nat now then. She couldnt have timed her previous posts any better really for this announcement.
Fax are a good club with some good fans but this is one area of our club that we have developed further and (we where always the only one to run anything anyway) you would be hard pushed to find fault with.
Good luck to them with getting their own strucutres back up and running and I can see that there is some good work going on with regards to that and I hope they get the funding sorted for that one. Always makes them look a bit shabby IMO when they dont run anything and you have CC1 clubs running systems that are superior on paper.

| Still here, unlike J20 and Vikingman I dont spend all my time on other's forums!
Congrats on the selections, I hope they can go on and be successful.
I think Steve O'Conner is slightly contradicting himself though. One the one hand he is saying Widnes can dominate SL, however he only hopes to have four or five international standard England players. If he does want to dominate SL then he will have to go out and buy Aussies\Kiwis to make up the rest of this dominant squad he is talking about.
P.S. Nat is short for Nathaniel, im a bloke!

Why is it? Wigan had 4 players in this 4 nations squad (6 if add Brown & Robinson). Also we are ttalking two different time scales, he wants 4 Widnesians in the 2013 WC squad, that is only the 2nd season of our potential return, the dominate RL desire is a long term progress, he has never said I want to be SL Champs within 2 years etc etc.
