McIlorum has had an op , matty smith and Liam Farrell unlikely to play
Sam Tompkins and Lockers no chance this week for Wigan.
I won't believe it until I see the teamsheet on Friday.

| Further to the above:-
Taken from "Wigan Today"
MAN of Steel Sam Tomkins is one of five stars battling to be fit for Friday’s trip to Widnes.
The full-back twisted his ankle in Sunday’s hard-fought 36-23 win at Wakefield.
Matty Smith, Pat Richards, Ben Flower and Mike McIlorum also picked up knocks and received treatment yesterday.
With a five-day turnaround between matches, Shaun Wane said he may not know until later this week who – if any – will be fit to take part in the Sky-televised clash. The coach is already missing Australian stand-off Blake Green (ankle) and captain Sean O’Loughlin (knee).
Wane said: “I’d made no secret of the fact I was already planning to give a chance to a couple of younger players.
“But we’ll have to see how we go this week with the injuries before we know which way we’re going to go.
“They’re not serious injuries, but with such a quick turnaround we may just be beaten by the clock.
“We’ll have a better idea later in the week.”
Although Wane has insisted Wigan are not a one-man team, he is well aware of their dismal record in matches without Tomkins. In the last six games when he has been absent, the Warriors have failed to register a win.
Wane will once again look to his youngsters to provide reinforcement.
Dom Crosby, Jack Hughes and Tom Spencer played on dual-registration for Leigh on Saturday – Spencer was the sponsors’ man of the match – and Epa Lauaki should be back from a bout of sickness.
George Williams, who has twice featured in the first-team this season, could also come into the frame – he scored a hat-trick playing for the Under-19s in an 80-0 win at Wakefield last Saturday. Tomkins – who had scored tries in a joint-club record 11 consecutive matches until Sunday – is expected to be named in the England squad today for next Friday’s clash against the Exiles.
O’Loughlin, Josh Charnley, Lee Mossop, McIlorum and Liam Farrell may also be in the 20-man panel, from which the team will be chosen. The Exiles side – comprised of Super League’s best overseas players – will be named tomorrow.

| Ryan Hampshire and Lewis Tierney will make their Wigan debuts on Friday.
They, along with George Williams, played for the England U18s against France two/three weeks ago.
Seems Wigan will be without Tomkins, poss Charnley, Richards, Green, Smith, Prescott, Dudson, McIlorum, Farrell, O'Loughlin & Flower.
Any of you Widnes fans fancy your chances?

| If Wigan have that many players of that quality missing on Friday then yes, we have to fancy it a bit. We could do with one or two of our long term injuries back, then 'd fancy it a lot.

To be fair it's only Widnes players that seem to get injured on it.

You'll be playing 17 lads on Sunday no matter who they are surely?
Not our fault Sammy boy gets to pick and choose when he fancied playing!

So he only wants to play in competitive games, does he? While he's obviously a once-in-a-generation talent, he's getting way way too big for his boots I'm afraid.

I fancy our chances. Why not. Wigan are a class outfit even with some players out and will be a tough nut for any team to crack.
Can't wait for this one!

| After the backlash Wane got when we beat Wigan last season, I'm a bit surprised by this potential injury list and his statement that he intended fielding youngsters anyway.
Wondering if this is a a ruse to catch Widnes off guard?

| Hopefully Cahill will be back for this one. I fancy our chances for this one more than I did against Catalan, however we are depleted ourselves so should be a good game.

Mate Widnes also had 8 players missing.

| From a neutrals point of view,a good competitive game, which could have gone either way but I suppose Wigan just about deserved to edge it.A number of good youngsters on show from both sides and a decent crowd to encourage O'Connor.Shame,I would have quite liked a narrow Widnes win.

| A genuine question - Can anyone tell me why Childs didn't allow Advantage when Owens intercepted a Wigan forward pass on the 6th tackle near the Widnes line, with an open field ahead of him, instead of blowing for the forward pass and insisting on a Widnes PTB?

| Because (unusually) the linesman was so quick off the mark to call the forward pass the ref blew immediately.

He was just as quick to disallow the Gelling try for a forward pass later in the game.
