A good choice IMO, he transformed Wire from relegation fodder to a top six side. Things didnt quite work out for him in the end but as we have seen since he left they have probably gone backwards.


A good appointment by Mr O'connor

Great signing, will do a very good job for you and is a good bloke to. I have no doubt with him helping to steer the ship that we will have the derbys back in a couple of seasons time.

Those people who were party to the interview process knew what was said in the interviews and obviously off the back of that it has helped them to make their decision. I for one will back the coach like I've always backed any other. When we win he will still be Paul Cullen and when we lose he will still be Paul Cullen, he won't be a wire twix. SOC is a very astute businessman and sometimes tough decisions have to be made but like any successful businessman he has to take a global view on the whole situation. And he has looked globally. Hopefully PC has learned from the mistakes he made at Wire, after all that is what learning is all about. He's a PR man too and likes to be seen saying the right things and if that means wooing the press to our advantage then good on the man. If SOC and TOC are happy in the appointment then that is good for me.

He wasn't my first choice but judge him at the end of the season on the performances on the pitch.

This man has got a lot to prove, not just to Widnes fans, but to Warrington fans and the RFL. He won't be happy with getting the boot from the spanglese or England. After all, they replaced him with Tony Smith as Head Coach of England. If his ethos is that similarly to what Stanny said in that if we get 50% completion rates and still score points with the other 50% then that will do for me. I'm just glad it is a Wire coming to Widnes and not the other way round. At least he knows which side his bread is buttered.

After watching Widnes since 1969,i have seen all the glory years,watched them in the dark days of not getting in the Murdoch league first time around,Canal Street,losing two grand finals,going bust,and the darkest day of all,welcoming a failed born and bred w**e coach to be boss of our ONCE great club.My god a dark day for our club.We have one more stab at getting back into the big time and we have put our trust in a failed w**e.

Dont know who you were expecting but give Paul Cullen a chance.

Not wholly overjoyed to be honest. Not because he's a Wire but because of his record at Wire. Wire's problems however may well go beyond Cullen and the only thing we can do is welcome him and give him a chance. I still remain to be convinced that this side and our new coach will perform as anticipated.

So were does it say that we all have to sing from the same sheet? It's my opinion,and it's a case of thanks but no thanks.

If it wasn't for Cullen Wire would still be a mid to bottom table side. He turned them around into a top 6 side. Likes to play expansive rugby and with the players we have im more than pleased with his appointment.

Don't be shocked if he brings all his failed w**e mates with him instead.

He started sending them three years ago.

Ha ha Monkeyman, Gaskell has been oustanding for us and Toa Balboa is a good centre at this level. Varkulis also ex wire is going well.

If he fails then we as a club have failed so why don't we try something novel and support this move rather than look forward to the 'I told you so opportunity..'

It's upset some supporters but in the main because he is a former wire.. and the word former is of the upmost importance.
As for his record... if we fail as Warrington failed then I will be ecstatic because it means that we will be up and challenging in SL and falling at the last hurdle of winning something. At the moment the prospect of that is very enticing.

I am not trying to put forward an i told you so attitude if he fails, it's just a opinion of one very disapointed old school fan.I think you will find i am not alone too.
