I did, studied whilst I worked there,a degree which covered mental health, graduated...took redundancy from PO, and now studying for another degree, Mental Health Nurse.

What's the issue with him going out?

Depression and/or Bi-polar (manic depression) can take an awful long time to overcome to any meaningful level so that you can function as a 'normal' person. Outwardly you look like any other tom, dick or harriet & seem completely okay but inside is a different matter altogether and your ability to cope with every day stuff (never mind been at work) goes right out the window.

There's also PTSD which whilst many associate it with war and major catastrophe's (The recent Norwegian incident springs to mind) episodes/events in people's lives can have similar deep rooted effects that can last a lifetime.

Personally I've experienced it on both sides of the coin and I hope that those around Gleeson can get him the help he needs. However mental illness is far more damaging & far reaching than most other physical injuries so there is a very very high chance he won't return to playing rugby at the top level if at all.
If he thinks he may well not come back he should do the honorouble thing and quit without taking next years pay or come to an amicable agreement with the club to help his near future.

This was clearly, but sadly, the most likely outcome, Wigan didn't wave bye bye until they hadn't explored all options. Joel Tomkins currently a woeful replacement.

We will be tied to that contract, IF he is entitled to full money then blame those who awarded the contract not the recipient.

Personally hope he pulls through, suspect RL is nolonger top of his priorities. Fully agree we need to move on - IMO we need a top class three quarter. We can't challenge top 4 perming any two from Turner, Whiting and Sharp.

Judging by his Twitter activity he hasn't been attending games but has been watching the televised matches.

Fair enough if he can't drive though I wouldn't have thought it would be that difficult to get here. I do think that as our club captain the guy should be "at work" doing whatever he can for the team which would include advice , motivation , PR with the fans etc. Not his fault if we've not asked/made him do it but I might have retained a bit more belief if I'd regularly seen Long supporting the team and by that I mean seeing him out on the pitch "with the boys" before games , at a few under 20's games etc. It just sends out a message that his heart was never in it whether that's true or not.
