When does the policing of the cap start/finish in a season though? Surely it must be relaxed during the off season to allow for player movement.

There isn't a relaxation period, if a club signs a player for the off season, they must be able to fit in the cap with the other players contracted for the next year.

Nope, as soon as you release them and arrange to pay them off 50k, the 100k would become freed up but not until the RFL have proof an agreement of release had been made. Thats why the cap ot live, so it can change at any given time. Under the old cap a club could go spend the money before an agreement had been made, if the payoff was larger than first offered, then the club could go over the cap without been able to do anything about it.

Raynor's salary will have counted on the 2010 cap. The difference between his pay off and his annual contracted salary should still be available but to be honest it's going to be nothing in real terms. Maybe £25k to £50k.

Yes he was but the money we paid him to terminate his contract counts on the cap and ultimately replaces the salary we'd have paid him on the cap. (to be in excess of the cap you're double counting both his salary and his release fee and he wouldnt get paid both, it's one or the other)

If we didnt pay him up in full yes there would be a small amount of cap space spare but it's tiny. Probably gone towards McShane.

90k was in the HDM, im not sure i believe that to be accurate. Also not sure where 50% has come from. Usually it's nearer to 90% to release someone otherwise whats the incentive for the individual to accept the termination. If Raynor was offered 50% he would probably have said no and stayed with us.

But then why not just keep him for the first 50% of his contract until he got sent down then terminate it for misconduct. I seriously doubt he would of got anywhere near 90% given the circumstances.

We could have done just that. The club however decided that he wasnt the right kind of character to have around the club and also that they didnt want to be his employer when he was sent down in case of any negative press that came with it. It's a pretty good stance to make imo.

In the circumstance he may not have got 90% but it would have to have been financially attractive to Raynor otherwise he wouldnt have taken the MUTUAL termination.

I agree, and he was being paid by Crusaders. I think 50% is nearer the accurate mark. But as Jake said, it's not a lot and we will have spent some on McShane, unless leeds paid his wages.
