It's starting to look like we invested a "marquee" amount of money into Ellis with the partial intention at least that his signing would be the signal of intent that would attract other big names BUT then we don't have the cap space left to pay them enough to get them in! We seem to have been down this path for quite a number of years now where we stumble from one years recruitment to the next and never seem able to draw a line under the previous year's "mistakes". And I still don't understand what the plan would have been had Briscoe stayed. It suggests that players would have had to have left to allow upgrades or that we would have lost those players and that there would have been no space for some of the acquisitions made . If we are actually at full cap at the moment that is.
It'll never happen but it would be so interesting to see the actual contracts values.

Same with the halves, we won't sign anyone unless we can move one on, again I'm only assuming, but from what AP was saying that one is more than likely Holdsworth.

I like you have no idea what we are playing him, however based on last season we looked a much better team when he played, I doubt we would have got to Wembley without him.

Also I don't think I would be to hasty in getting rid only played a hand full of games yes he was shocking at times but there is something there to work with. The lads got pace and bulk mabe just need confidence.

I just don't really see the point in that. If Biggs is fancied as a first choice winger, we won't really get better than Crookes as a reserve.

The more worrying possibility would be a centre going out to bring in another winger/fullback. With Pearson talking about Thompson as a centre that gives us 4 + youngsters, and with him also talking about Yeaman fairly positively last night they would both seem fairly safe. I wouldn't like to lose either of the other 2, personally.

If we are at full cap with our present squad then it was truly awful. Agar got some abuse, but I would have to say his recruitment was better than those two.

TBF Pitts is a decent player to have around. Plus O'Carroll, McKinnon & Obst were all signed before Gentle was appointed. Only O'Carroll was signed after Pearson bought the club.

Good point, IIRC it's from the player's 11th season in Super League, if so Whiting qualifies, although it won't affect our salary cap as we already have at least one player qualifying.
