Unless we offload a couple of players, whether that be by loaning them out or any other means, we won't be signing anyone of an real quality before 2011. We simply don't have the cap space at the moment to sign Sammut, Phelps or anyone of that calibur.

Looking through the squad, the players that stick out to me are Burnett and Washbrook, neither of which I expect will get much game time next year (I'm pretty sure I've seen on here that Burnett has been rumoured to be going on loan).

We are on the look out for a cheap(ish) squad player with the little space we do have.

Correct. The things that are uncertain IMO are whether we paid much to King and/or Raynor out of the 2010 cap, which would then in theory be available for 2011. Guess we'll never really know, Raynor got binned off in December, can't remember what happened with King.

Nobody knows apart from the accountants exactly what is the real state of the cap and the club are never going to turn around and say actually we are x amount under the cap because that would then cause uproar with the fans.

King was released on 1st December last year, Mrs B. Raynor's release was officially announced on Boxing Day.

Irrespective of how much we paid king and raynor to leave, their salaries were counted in the live cap last season and we signed no one (other than a loanee for a month or so) after they left so their full 2010 salaries must be available to spend in 2011.

Agree about Raynor, but not sure about King. I thought contracts run to 30th November (as per the normal accounting year end date for most clubs) and he was announced as leaving on 1st December, so don't think that's clear cut - could have been paid off on 2009 cap and never included on the 2010 one in theory.

If it's a transfer fee paid to a club then it doesn't count (unless a portion goes to the player as well). If it's a signing-on fee paid to the player then it does.

Basically any payments (or benefits in kind) given to a player contribute towards his cap value.

but then we have improved deals for tickle,manu,houghton,whiting etc,plus yeamo?.also unsure how the payments to people like o'meley etc are being paid?x amount for the 1st year,followed by higher the following year etc?

Yeaman's contract is on reduced terms. His last contract was when he was in the GB squad, so the club offered less. He actually had an NRL offer (penrith I think) but stayed at Hull on reduced terms
