The fact that Lauaki got refused on his English skills originally says to me that if he has an Aussie/NZ passport, he's not using it, so he must be using another passport for his entry to the UK/quota.

It appears so - just been looking into that myself. Allan Fitzgibbon in the 70s, but apparently only played a few games.

you read the BBC article on O'Carroll too then, the news about Fitz's dad was, well, "news" to me!

I'd be surprised if any of our new signings are on wages as big as Long and Fitz, I'd also guess Ellis and O'carroll are the lowest paid on the list.

As standee says I don't think there will be a big difference. Also, when a resource becomes more scarce, it's price rises. Unless the absence of a non-fed quota really was the dam holding back a flood of quality British youngsters, replacing like-for-like is the new trading up (love a snowclone, me).

Don't think he came outright and said it but it certainly sounded like it the way he talked about it.
