I'd like to see us sign a similar style of middle if ye goes. Let's say Sao, Taylor and Trout are the other 3. With Fash and Cator sharing 13. For me we'd need another game breaking type prop, to help swing momentum in our favour.

I'd be very disappointed if Satae left. Replacing him like for like will not be easy. You only have to look at how many NRL props have come to SL and have been expensive flops.

Also interesting article on the reserves, particularly the part he talks about Balmforth and Staverley, by that I'd expect Staverley to stay and Balmforth to go.

He's a gamebreaker, but does have quiet games. I'd try and sign a similar style if we can, but Smith might see things differently

It's his last chance at a big contract and a top 4 team has come in for him. Plus he gets to live in the South of France, few would turn it down.

Whilst I agree, had this news come out after the Rovers game, I winder if the reaction would be different. Out of 10 or so games he has probably played well in 3 of them.

Definitely can replace him, but won't be easy like for like, alot of puddings like Vete, Mago and Atoni.

The lure of living in the South of France is a major factor and you have to admire Catalan how they manage to fit all these top players in the salary cap.

Like a lot of players he has good and bad aspects to his game.

Yeah he made that great run in the second half carrying players on his back ala Keith Boxhall.

But he also dropped a catchable pass and made a poor attempt at tackling Thornley that led to a Wigan break.

Catalans have an unfair advantage in regards the the cap. A player only needs to stay for two years and he gets all his tax back, and that’s an even bigger lure along with the lifestyle.

To be fair, at the time and on paper (before they played a game for KR) they looked decent and even exciting signings for them; time and experience proved they were not.

To be fair, we signed Kane Evans with similar expectations - a seasoned NRL prop (who had kept Chris Satae out of the Warriors side) coming over with a long ban: assumption was an “enforcer” type who would have a big impact. Didn’t work out for us either.

Clearly, it is hard to gauge how well any NRL signing will do - most are as expected, but plenty have been poor; and it has often been the lesser known or fringe players who have had the most impact in SL.

To be fair, Takarangi was a decent player. Off the field behaviour did for him of course.

Certainly sounds very similar to the rumour this time last year with Ma'u which of course turned out to be true.

As has been said it's hard to compete with the lure of Perpignan, the weather, the lifestyle and the financial benefits. Again same with Ma'u he's probably thinking a couple of years living in the South of France will be a great life experience for him and his family before it's time to call it a day and return home.

Takarangi arrived with a big reputation but never lived up to it. Overall his performances were very average. Smith played him even when he did not perform and perpetuated his poor decision making by remaining loyal even after his off field antics.

Is it coincidental Chris has had a recent short break in France?
