Can't see how you've come to that conclusion at all. He had a mostly decent game and made one major error - the forward pass - that you see in SL every week.

Agreed... Can't help but wonder how gutted Kath is feeling right now. Gives me a warm feeling.

Maybe I'm being unfair. They've only lost in 1994, 1995, 2000, 2003, 2005, 2010 and 2011.

Exactly what I think. I don't feel sorry for them at all, they're the luckiest team in the league by far and calls always go their way.
Congrats to Wigan.

Can't remember all the decisions at this moment, but a few are...
Wigan player turning a Leeds player well past the horizontal in the tackle. Wigan given posession by Bentham.
Wigan player kicks the ball into touch near the end. Wigan gifted the scrum by the touch judge.
Early on the Wigan players form a union style maul and drive a Leeds player into touch (about ten meters away). Wigan awarded posession despite this being outlawed about two years ago.
Tompkins catches ball off kick off. Drops ball trying to pass to winger. Bentham allows wigan to play on.

Ok...
1. I'd have said that should have been a penalty, but I've seen worse not given.
2. Not down to Bentham.
3. That rule is for lifting and/or dragging, not pushing. Same decisions given every week.
4. The ball very clearly went backwards.
As I said, a mostly decent game from the ref.

| It was his decision not to consult the video ref. Which, in the context of the decision, is very questionnable.

I think there were three major errors by the officials that led directly to Wigan tries. Lima's first try followed an obviously illegal tackle on Delaney and the scrum that led to Leuluai's try should have gone to Leeds.

And what reason would he have had to consult the VR? The TJ is there to make these calls and Bentham was way too far away to see what happened. Should refs consult the VR on every touch call - just in case?

We were discussing Bentham's performance and Bentham was not responsible for the error by the TJ. The forward pass and the Delaney tackle I've already mentioned.

Because it was a game defining call? Common sense would suggest that with the importance of the decision in the context of the game, he should have gone to the VR.

Players ask to go to the screen all of the time and usually the refs listen.
I do believe the captain should be able to request it. Similar to tennis.

1. Worse being given before is by no means an excuse.
2. Why is it not down to Bentham? He could have checked with Ganson, he even sees it on the big screen FFS.
3. Once BJB had his leg lifted (by Deacon) held should have been called, if Wigan continue a penalty should be given. Either way its Leeds' ball.
4. In relation to his outstretched arm, the ball travelled forward.

Ganson should have stepped in, surely getting the calls right is the objective?

I disagree. Unless Bentham had reason to suspect that the call might have been wrong I don't see why he would call for the VR. I think that Ganson should probably have had a quiet word in his ear though.

I agree, but I think Bailey and Maguire being poor losers balance that out.

I agree, but the RFL banned the VR from volunteering information after the fiasco between Leeds and Bradford at Millenium Magic and we were discussing Bentham's performance not Ganson's.

| Wigan deserved to win. Simple as.
Who knows what would have happened if decisions during the game had gone the other way ? It's just the way the game goes.
99.99% of RL results go "the right way" i reckon, in that the teams get the result their endeavours deserve. I would even say that about 1980.
This was one of them, and you can read the result in tomorrow's papers.

1. It wasn't an excuse, and is part of why I said he had a decent game and not a good one.
2. He didn't have cause to question the call at the time it was made, and isn't allowed to use the Big Screen to influence his decisions.
3. It has to be both legs clear of the ground. And I'm half convinced that the refs have been told to ignore it again anyway given decisions over the last year or so. They also ignore the bit about calling held if more than one attacking player joins the tackle and that hacks me off no end.
4. He threw it backwards. It doesn't matter what direction it goes after it bounces.

Everybody knows he is a good player but just so arrogant like when he gets a try and keeps looking behind to wind up the opposition no wonder he gets booed and someone will catch him good and proper
