It won't go down well and I doubt anyone else will mention it, but Houghton took a couple of very poor options at important times. Twice on the fourth tackle within their 20 he scooted when it simply wasn't on. We had a good, deep line with Long demanding the ball and Houghton went himself despite their line being set. It's this sort of thing that he really needs to cut out of his game if he's ever going to be anything more than a decent SL player.

That apart, he was good again and there were only really a couple of poor passes that he could really be faulted for otherwise.

Willie is a great player and on top of his game at the minute.

Houghton was very good tonight. Sure his option taking is the weaker part of his game but the key point is that he is improving as the coach said the other week. Berro deserves special mention for a brilliant tackle on their left winger when they broke near the end (aided by full back Whiting).

Remember he is only 21 but for me he getting better all the time and think agar is realising that

I think that about sums up the attitude of most on here when faced with a reasoned, evidence critique that doesn't happen to fit with their blinkered view.

Another man of the match performance for me, totally out classing Berrigan at the moment (which isn't hard the way he's playing) but anyway, well done Houghton.

Agree with that, in the main he had another good game but he does need to pick the right time to skoot more consistantly. ATM its everytime he sees the square markers not quite set when he has other more beneficial options.

Hookers will always make the odd wrong call per game because they handle the ball far more then any other player on the pitch. In Danny's defence I would imagine he had been told to run more against a very big Catalans pack, they are the kind of team that Houghton can cause all sorts of problems for and if the ref had clamped down on their third man into the tackle slowing the play the ball down I suspect he would have had more joy scooting.

Not disagreeing with your original point but suspect every game we could highlight a couple of times Houghton doesnt make the correct play.

No he didnt, he played 6 and Washy moved to LF

Houghton imposed himself on a 50/50 game as was a standout player for us. Berrigan didn't and wasn't. If you'd attended that particular game not knowing either player and said one of the two had the far bigger reputation and salary, you'd be hard-pushed IMO to pick Berrigan out as said player. I'm not having a go at Berro, but Houghton took it upon himself to take the game to Catalans and did so with gusto. Good on him. Fans, unsurprisingly, respond positively to that sort of obvious attitude and effort.

No he didnt, Washy stayed at 6. You can tell by the defensive pattern. Washy stayed defending wide right and Berro defended down the middle like Fitz normally would. Berro may have gone in the middle to ball handle but that was as a 13.

Houghton was good but imo Manu was motm by a country mile.
