Tbf though if Houghton picks up an injury or is out of form then we're pretty screwed.

| As well as Saints and Salford's interest, later rumour is loan swap with Wigan for Hampshire. Looks like he could be moving on given Monaghan's confirmed.

Getting into the oppo's 30m wasn't a problem, but we were terrible when we were there. Whilst it wasn't all due to Houghton, it starts with him at hooker.
Sneyd was pretty disappointing and Pryce unfit for most of it too.
Kicking was generally pi$$ poor. Conversions, no 40-20s all year, ineffective attacking kicks etc.'"
The smart move in my opinion, would be to use part of the sale of Westerman, to acquire an attack coach to assist Radford for this season.
But.. adding someone, who has been associated with this 'problem' for some years wont change anything- one iota.
Our signings wont change the way we attack,10 yards out from the opposition line, the likes of Houghton,Sneyd and Shaul need intense training ,ball in hand - IMO.

I don't think you do, you need an organiser and 'brain' who will direct the team, Kelly is non of those. You need a Campese type player who will let Sneyd play off the cuff. For me Sneyd on form is a similar style player to Kelly.

Agreed. Sneyd needs a big year in my opinion. Some of his kicking and distribution was extremely poor. Pryce was good early on but injuries caught up with him.

I actually think we have that in Pryce.
Our issue is back up if one or both are injured.

| Surely we can't be after a 6? We have Pryce, Tuimavave & Abdull in that position. We need a hooker or a centre, even better would be both.

Good post Doom&Gloom. I agree that it wasn't an issue getting forward but rather what we did once we was there. I also agree with your comments on Houghton and Pryce but I wasn't personally disappointed with Sneyd as such. I just thought that, as with a lot of our players, he was inconsistent. There were times when I thought he was magnificent with his attacking play.

I think I just expected more from him.
As you say, he was quite inconsistent. Some stuff he does is top drawer, other stuff and I've got my head in my hands. I think he's got all the skills and is still fairly young. Conversions was an issue though - 2015 he missed 31.7% of kicks, 2014 for Cas it was 23.3% - so no idea what's caused that drop off.

It looked to me like he changed his conversion style as the season progressed. At the start of the season he started his run ups with his back to the sticks but then he seemed to change it to a sideways run up. Maybe it was just me but I thought he was more accurate with his original conversion style.

I can see it now. We needed to add "experience" to the ranks. He's a "proven" Super League centre. He fits the "professional" attitude we're trying to achieve.

I think that our problem is that all of our ball players played as individuals and seemed isolated much of the time. Whether that's because Pryce wasn't fit enough to maintain a performance throughout a game , Houghton's too knackered and/or doesn't really have that control element in his game , Abdul lacked experience , Sneyd is too unpredictable and Westerman didn't like/couldn't carry off his new role or because the coach wasn't able to bring them together , it's difficult to tell. Any one of them could look like a world beater playing in a different set up. Sneyd to a degree proved that with his previous form at Cas and Westerman may well do that at Wire. No one seemed strong or "clever" enough to genuinely lead and organise the team. Will the players coming in change that? Probably not , they may lead by example but if we are to improve we've got to find some cohesion and that will only come from a dominant and skilled organiser in my view. Who will that be? At the moment it's looking like Abdul will have to take it on which will be a tough ask or we're hoping for a renaissance from Leon.

Pryce at his best was more of a runner to Longs organising, very similar to Horne alongside Cooke. Never took me as a stand back and organise type player. Think he's tried to mould himself into that role more as he's got older but it makes him less effective.

When Pryce leaves, Abdul will be our SOH for years - talk of him moving to LF are wide of the mark IMO, at least until late in his career.
