| How much money, at a guess, do you think sl clubs spend on overseas players?
500k?
Would that not tempt a player back to each club or at least kept them here?

No idea but I doubt it would. Players got to the NRL for the challenge too and the lifestyle/experience, chance to play in the best league in the world. As for RU it has a bigger international profile and the money is massive. Clubs are learning and changing but if you can get a good overseas player then there is nothing wrong with it.

We're not just losing good players to the NRL though, kids are going even younger now. That kid Pietersen at Rovers was absolute quality, he's playing regional stuff now I think.
Do we raise our cap to keep them?

| You don't have to raise the cap, you give them a fair share.

If a loaf of bread costs £1 in the UK and $2 in Aus then simply speaking, the level of balance for those currencies is 1 to 2, just because it needs $2 to be the same as £1 doesnt mean it is weaker (See Purchasing Power Parity).
Now if you could buy $2.5 per £1 due to the market conditions, then the $ would be a weaker currency.
This isnt 100% accurate but about as simple as I could make it.'"

Difference is Jake, I'm not wrong.
The 35% rise in the salary cap since 2005, and ever increasing, is the main reason why we won't see average Aussies over here. Not any strengthening of the currency.

The lure of RU and the increasing amounts on offer from the NRL mean clubs like Wigan have to pay people like Tomkins a competitive wage. Leaving less for the youngsters.
We should make the cap a non-home grown cap, Allow £300k for imports, £600-700k on federation trained then all players that come through our own academy don't count.
That would ensure at least 60% of your squad was Academy sourced. It would also help clubs like Cas, Wakey, Widnes, Rovers etc. as they could beat off competition from other clubs for there own talent.

The 35% of the cap doesn't get spread evenly, the dollar going from 3 to 1.46 in the same period applies to everyone.

They could release Hame and give that to their youngster.
I was in favour of the salary cap at its current level but now it's a hindrance. I'd raise it to 2.5 million from next season.

35% rise in salary cap or 50% strengthening of the currency, which has the most effect?
This is the best quote though, shows a fundamental alck of understanding

It's not as easy as that. You can't just offer good money to every youngster that looks half decent, they may not make it and not deserve a the higher wage.
Like I have said several times, younger players are now getting a shot in SL throughout all the sides and that can only be a good thing. Trouble is when the NRL comes calling they have more money to spend and have the lure of the playing in the best league and having a different kind of lifestyle. That's hard to compete with.
There needs to be a raising of the cap, although that seems dangerous they way some clubs are currently performing financially. Or maybe some kind of relief for player under a certain age who have come through the system.
It's not just a case of clubs not paying enough.

We've enough clubs with financial problems with a salary cap of 1.65million, 2.5million will end super league as we know it.

Can you not use the quote button?
Yes but who is to say who is worth good money on a decent deal. We could have given a good deal to Nicklas, Green and Kent. The Nicklas money would have been a waste. The have to prove themselves, the 25 man squad includes unproven young players, hence the "halfdecent" comment.
It's usually the better players that get targetted by NRL clubs, the likes of Ellis, Birgess and Graham will have been on good money anyway. That's starting to change with the NRL clubs looking at younger players like Mossop, Briscoe and some talent younger than that. Briscoe and Mossop won't be leaving purely for money either and I doubt that Pietersen at Rovers did.
It's not always money although we could so something around younger players on the cap. The issue is too many clubs are struggling with the current cap, raising it may be dangerous.

This is something I'm concerned about. I think that the cap should be raised myself but the financial situation of clubs will probably see it stay the same so as not to put clubs in further jeopardy.

Not just about money for some players, the NRL is a chance to play the world's best standard RL and take their opportunities. It's ambition.
