| People not getting it! Fitz has basically been playing as a prop, just the number 13 on his back rather then 8 or 10! Like you say Paul, he will play the same game where ever he plays.
I like the idea of Washy at hooker with Houghton, I am still a believer of what he can do and prefer him in the thick of it in the middle. No need in bringing in an actual hooker IMO, bringing in some HB/SO cover is priority [uIF[/u indeed we get Westy or a similar player.

Use the overseas spot to sign an Aussie half back, who's creative. Horne on the bench to spell Houghton for 20 minutes, can cover full back, centres and stand off.
Use Fitzgibbon as a prop, which is what he plays as now anyway and have Whiting at loose man as an extra playmaker.

Don't disagree with that but we're not going to get an attacking half for 2011. Agar has said he's looking for back up presumably cos there are no front line guys out there. We're too late. That being the case and only because of that we'll have to make do and making do with Washbrook, who would not get into most other teams as a specialist anything, is probably our only option. He is at least generally consistent and certainly grafts. He isn't fast , he isn't creative and he won't be the best dummy half in the world but we're talking stop gap.......hopefully! If we can get a better stop gap solution from Oz for a year then fair enough but we don't want to be handing out two or three year deals to another ordinary player.

Quote With speculation rife as ever as to potential ins and outs at the KC Stadium during the off-season, Hull FC’s Chief Executive has spoken out regarding the ongoing recruitment process.
Following the arrival of Will Sharp following the climax of the Super League season, there is potential for more activity off the field for Hull if the right players are available, particularly after Australian hooker Shaun Berrigan came off the quota.
However, CEO James Rule is keeping his cards close to his chest and maintained that the retention and recruitment process is as active as ever.
“We have a number of conversations on going and have hundreds of conversations on going throughout the year,” he said.
“The recruitment period is all year around, although some fans understandably think it all happens now.”
Although there has been wild speculation linking various players with the Black and Whites, there is understandably little chance of seeing the wholesale changes that 2010 brought.
With ten new faces in the squad last season, a host of players retained on new deals throughout the year and the club operating at salary cap maximum once again, there isn’t much more scope for further movement.
There’s been no official line on any further recruitment, but if there is, Rule says the fans will be the first to know as always.
“Sometimes speculation can simply be driven from speculation in the press here or down under, agents trying to drive a bigger deal and some deals that just don’t come off,” said Rule.
“The other side of that is that we have good relationships with most clubs and we wouldn’t want to have any information about certain deals and signings coming about before we secure a signature, as not to jeopardise losing out on a player.”
He added, “So our policy is to inform all of our supporters as soon as a deal is completed and this will always be communicated in the normal channels of the website, grapevine, The 18th Man, Airlie Night and live fans forums.” '"
Reading between the lines of that, they've implied that the only space really that's left on the cap will be whatever wage Dowes was on, as he's the only player to have not resigned from last season, and we were at full cap last year, apparently. (I'm assuming that Radford's lower wage and Tickle's increased wage will just about cancel each other out).

Absolutely right. Much as we need a HB, I'd rather go with what we've got for 2011 than compromise our options for 2012 by having to offer a 2 year deal for an ordinary quota filler-in.

I'd rather we went for a season long loan deal with someone like this....
www.warriors.co.nz/our-team/play ... un-Johnson
And if he liked it here we could sign him in the future. If not, any other Toyota cup boom youngster would be a great option.

Berrigan's our best centre. Why would we play him as an interchange hooker?

There's nothing in those lines never mind between them!
I think that the comments regarding "taking our time" from Agar are more pertinent and suggest that we've maybe just been knocked back on a deal we thought may happen and now are starting again/having to ressurrect other deals? I just hope we don't panic buy.

So would I but anyof these guys that are likley to make it will stay. Johnson is touted by those who know as the next big thing and he's likley to make his debut in the NRL this year. You'd think that there would be plenty of kids over there who can't quite make it but would be better than what we have here but if they have belief in themselves they tend to stick it out.

I presumed from that that as Dowes is the only ??? atm, we're roughly at the cap, minus his wage.
That's where I got that idea from, anyway.
As for panic buying, I heard Chris Thorman is looking for a Sl deal......

Which begs the question: If that's the case why would we.....
What sort of chunk of the cap would Dowes be taking? I think the main reason Calderwood was released was (I'm guessing) the salary he was commanding - we'd have risked the injury liability if he was on a similar wage to, say, Briscoe, Turner and Sharp.

Exactly. Now I'm not suggesting they're on a par as players, but I find it strange that Radford was pilloried for not offering what people expected of a loose forward whilst Fitzgibbon is lauded, as they have both done exactly the same job there, just to differing levels.
For some reason, people seem to struggle seeing beyond the shirt number at times. It was the same when we had Cooke and Horne wearing 6 and 7, respectively.
