I'd like everyone of our squad to either be inspired or motivated by this great man's life and to honour what he meant to rugby league and Hull FC.
That should be motivation enough for Saturday.

Making a 15/20 yard scoot when the opposition are on the back foot isn't a threat
When players like Roby daryl Clark dwyer break the line when that happens
Funny you was knocking Sneyd for not performing since them days.... Talk about clutching at straws
It's only when Houghton go's/ retires will some fans realise how much he held back our attack
Why has he never even got close to a full England/Gb cap? Cause he isn't close to good enough that's why

| Quote ="Marcus's Bicycle"Despite the defeat the game against the 1982 Aussie invincibles was one of the best I've ever witnessed. The Aussies played a near full strength test team whereas we had a patched up side. Mick Crane was magnificent that night and just about the only player on that tour who could open up their defence. It was difficult to follow the game as fights were happening all the time in back play! Crooks was a teenager at the time but nevertheless fearless and got stuck in to hardman Les Boyd.
Also I well remember the first test at Boothferry Park. A packed house stood in silent admiration as the Aussies completely hammered us with Rugby many had never seen before. My brothers mate had a pen pal (younger readers look that up) who sent us VHS videos (look that up as well) of the old Winfield Cup games so we were familiar with the likes of Sterling, Pearce and Grothe to name a few. I would never believed that Sterling would play for us a few years later.'"
That was a great Tour.
I saw all three games in Hull during that 1982 Tour. We went to watch the game at Rovers. Three sendings off in the first 30 mins, before Mal Meninga announced his arrival in the game with a couple of tries and several kicks.
I can remember arriving at the First Test at Boothferry Park full of hope, with GB even leading 4-2 early on in front of 33,000. Then the Aussies took the game to another level. During the second half they were running tries in for fun. Breaking tackles and backing up, often 3 to 1 against Fairbairn at Full Back - who by the end of the game was just taking head high pot shots at the attackers as they off-loaded for another try.
The Hull match at The Boulevard was a classic. Australia were 12/12 on the tour and keen to win all the games. Despite it being only a few days before the final Test, Australia fielded their starting Test team v us. Hull has several key players out. Over 16,000 packed into the Boulevard that night, saw Hull take a first half lead, before Australia overcame us in the second half 13-6 I think. Shame we didn’t have our full strength team out, it may have been a different outcome.

Five Hull born players in the pack that night - Harrison, Rose, Proctor, Crooks and Crane - plus Mick Sutton on the bench. Frank Stanton described it as the toughest game on the tour.
What a side the Aussies put out that night, including Mal Meninga, Steve Rogers, Eric Grothe, Brett Kenny, Peter Sterling, Max Krilich, Les Boyd, Wayne Pearce, Rod Reddy, Ray Price and Wally Lewis.

| Lee crooks punched les Boyd after about 5 minutes and a massive brawl broke out. I also remember there was loads of forged tickets circulating the town. The queues were massive as police on the gates checked everyones tickets before they got in. The glow from the floodlights in the surrounding streets as you approached a night game at the Boulevard was magical back then. O'Hara was robbed of that try, and Toppo completely outplayed Brett Kenny and scored a great first half try. I think James leuluai broke his jaw that night too. It was a great season I have Steve Nortons signed shirt when he captained Great Britain in the first Test at Boothferry Park.

Which bit don't you agree with?
You trying to say Houghton is better than Roby and Clark...
England caps.... Yep 0
Think People defend Houghton cause he's a bransholme lad and tackle 52
He's definitely a weak link for our attack 100%

Totally agree with you MB on the quality of that 1982 Aus. squad. Attended my first Ashes series in 1948 and the last in 2003 and they were the best I have ever seen. Averaged 33 points /game over the series which is a historical Ashes points record for either team.
As a piece of trivia the only 4 match Ashes series was played in 1929/30. As the series was tied at 1-1 after a draw in the 3rd game a 4th was agreed which GB won. The only Ashes Test ever played at Craven Park featured in this series.
Hull to eke out a narrow win today as they did against Saints in the last match I attended at this stadium in 2010.

Who mentioned the last year's, you said that Houghton has NEVER offered a threat going forward which is nonsense, as he use to offer a great threat, but for various reasons (mainly overworked) he hadn't offered for the last few years so has been disappointing going forward.
Hopefully being spelled with another hooker will get some of his old form back, playing less minutes.
No one has said he is as good as Roby or Clarke, so no idea why you even mention that, there has been some outstanding hookers hookers during Houghtons time at Hull, so no shame in jot getting a cap.
Like Connor you have a chip on your shoulder about certain players and will never see past it.
Houghton was a very good SL hooker for alot of years (including dream team in 2016), been average for the last few years, but I believe he can still have an impact if used correctly.
If he doesn't improve this should be his last season at Hull IMO.

Cause we can do alot better than Houghton
Lovodua was a breath of fresh air last week and shows how much better than houghton would be
100% Houghton would not have scored the try Lovodua did he would of just done what he always does at loose man just catch the ball and pass it straight to the next man
Tackle 52 was the reason he got man of Steel and dream team
Ellis was our best player by a mile in 2016
Utter nonsense again most 9s do 80 minutes Roby did 80 minutes every week until last year or two
A hooker is there for attack and defence ( Houghton is just a tackler for 100k a year )

| As an aside , watching a very slim and fit-looking Albert Kelly playing for Brisbane Broncos this morning. Just shows how some of that Hull team were not as fit as they could have been.

Agreed he wouldn't have scored that try, who said he who?
You said he has NEVER been a threat, which is rubbish, I don't think you watched us in 2016 if you think he won that on the back on one tackle, you think the majority players in the league voted for him in the basis of one tackle, are the players that stupid?
He set up and scored lots of trys in 2016/17, along with years before I suggest you watch some highlights from those seasons and then tell me all he has done for all of his career is tackle.

Unlikely given that MoS is a Super League based award. He made 1359 tackles in Super League that year, a record that still stands.

Not sure your club have announced it yet but you have made a signing from Warrington. Hooker Denive Balmforth. Good player.
