Whilst I'd take the point that publically deriding a player probably isn't the best course of action, it would have been extremely difficult for the club to go all out to sign another halfback without anything appearing in the press.

Yep. Since Cooke left, Horne has been asked to play in a style that doesn't suit his natural talents. He's not an organiser, and he's not a kicker (though he did quite well last night), yet he's been forced to undertake those roles far too frequently over the past few years.

If we are able to sign a top HB for next year, Horne will make excellent cover along the back line. If not, and if he and Holdsworth stay fit, I reckon their partnership shows enough promise for this not to be the end of the world.

He's been better than average, many gave him MOM already this season, he was good last night and showed he does have a kicking game. With an actual 7 he shows his true game.

Giving him an extra year proves we want experience and depth in the squad, we sign another half for next season he won't start, which Horney fully understands.

It's not that Seymour knew Hull was trying to replace him, it's the fact that everybody knew and the club did nothing to even attempt to be subtle about it.

I'm not blinded by previous opinions of players. Horney has had a decent start to this season. If he drops in form, then he should be dropped from the team. Open your eyes.

It's very rare in professional sport these days for players to be brought into clubs without something getting into the press beforehand. And, as I alluded to before, I think AP et al were keen to demonstrate that they had recognised the weaknesses in the squad and were attempting to rectify them. Had they been more discrete about their search for a halfback, you could bet your life that there'd have been plenty of fans complaining about it.

So they're faced with a choice of trying to search very quietly for a new HB (which would have been difficult anyway) and risking upsetting fans, or searching very openly and upsetting the player they were trying to replace.

Depends which way you look at it, I suppose. If perceived lack of effort in finding a halfback had adversely affected season ticket sales, then AP might see that as a bigger issue than a player being upset. Particularly when that player doesn't seem to be part of the coach's plans.

I'm not saying everything has been handled perfectly, but I think the club is in a difficult position when seeking to replace a contracted player. It's virtually impossible for them to do so without the player being upset. Even if they'd managed to keep all mention of their search out of the media, there's no way they'd have managed to keep it from Seymour himself.

So Seymour would still have been affected by a 'quiet' search for a replacement, and the fans would potentially have been annoyed that (to their knowledge) no search was taking place at all.

I'm slightly of the opinion he's been messed about a bit on the playing field side of things as well as the off-field shenanigans.
The problem being that PG seems he was also unsure of which way to go after our failure to capture Prince etc.

Been wishing that since the off season. A no-brainer to me after Prince fell through. Not sure what happened as they seemed to remain in discussion s for ages then just seemed to fizzle out.
