Well he got coach of month for beating 3 teams below us and loseing to 1 so...yeah,not too bad.We then play a decent team and get beat.

The team is playing well yes,best for a while,but he still isnt the man to put us up with Wire,Wigan on a consistent basis

past few weeks horne has improved since last season, nobody knows what value of a contract he has, we have more options next season in the halfs than we hava had in the last 3 or 4 put together

Plenty of competition in the halves so will have to play well to get a starting spot.

Played poorly but then so did everyone else. Also playing injured which won't have helped. Seems a tad harsh to write off the form he's shown this season after one very bad game, but par for the course on here I guess.

We missed a very very average Dowes tonight and Fitz is so slow with ball in hand the rest of the team fall asleep. Ive not been as disappointed with the way we're playing and the prospects for change fo as long as I can remember. Who cares how many clubs. What we want is quality.

I agree, i'm still not happy about it now.... If his contract isn't £60k or less, someone needs sacking. He's an average halfback at best and should be our lowest paid one accordingly, particularly what he's earned for being less than average for the last 4/5 years!!

Five years ago was 2006 - the year Horne equalled the club record for tries scored on the way to getting us to the GF alongside Cooke. Get the season review out or look at his stats for that year. Hardly 'less than average'.

2007 was the year Cooke left and Horne had to play most of it as the only halfback. When we got him a partner he played well.

2008 he missed nearly all of due to a serious neck injury. He was also diagnosed as diabetic.

2009 he had to put up with Thorman as a partner and struggled to adjust to his diabetes and possibly his injury.

2010 he was pretty average except for the odd game. I wondered if he was shot and should retire.

2011 after a slow start he's been good in most games and looking more like his old self. He had a poor game last night but so did everyone else.

You clearly have an issue with him that keeps you from analysing his performances rationally. That's OK - you're not alone.

Can't argue with that, it was at that point I finally hoped Horne would stop hiding behind other players and finally step up to the plate. Saying that though he wasn't the reason we got to the GF.



Perfect opportunity for him to step up to the plate and show what he can do. Which we discovered was just an inside ball and the odd sidestep.

Plus Thorman had to put up with Horne as his partner, the best we ever looked that season seemed to be when Berrigan went into the halves and he was our hooker. The latter part of your sentence I can't agree with, all players have setbacks and all deal with them. Plus getting diabetes shouldn't stop a half back from losing his rugby brain.



I remember he played well the first couple of games then went back to his old self and definitely looked finished at the top level.




He's been good in the games against lower class opposition IMO, he had an OK game against Saints but apart from that done very little to put headlines on pages. OK he may have set up a couple of tries against the lower teams but we as a club need more, especially from a player with 300+ games experience.





I don't think he does, I think he is just seeing what the rest of SL are seeing in that Horne is very overrated / not good enough. I've said it many times before, we need more from a half back the fact he has a very poor long kicking game should have being enough to see him from the club. You yourself have even said that his last 4 years (despite the injuries excuse) he has being very poor. Not the form of a player deserving a new two year deal IMO. I know for a fact that Rich himself didn't even think he was worth a new deal. We've never being troubled for his signature, makes you wonder why.


I'd happily eat humble pie every week from now till the day he leaves the club but I reckon the weeks i'm not eating it outweigh the weeks were I do. Horne isn't a crap player by all means, I mean he's a better player then I am

I just think as a club we should be looking for stand offs with an all round game, IMO he's not cut out to be at a team challenging for silverware. Its player like Danny Nicklas I feel sorry for who will probably on the back of this deal end up getting shipped out of the club at some point in the near future due to not being given a fair chance to shine.

I honestly don't always mean to come across as an anti Horne fan but IMO I just think we could do better. That said I;d always respect the kid for the service he has given the club and some of his tries have being outstanding, but that's a thing of the past these days he can longer do the full distance.

That's a tad unfair IMO. What we discovered is that he simply doesn't have the personality or skill set to be a controlling 7 and never will. He has more than the inside ball and sidestep though - his positional awareness in both attack and defence is excellent, his support play top notch, and he has both a good short pass and short kicking game.


Horne has always relied on strength, athleticism, and a certain amount of pace. All of those were greatly reduced due to his recovery from injury and his diabetes. I do think that you're greatly underestimating the effect diabetes can have on a sportsman, particularly in a fast and high impact sport like RL. It will have effected his ability to train and get into top fitness as well as his matchday performances.


The same can be said to a greater or lesser degree about all of our players this season. I still think that Horne has been among the better and more consistent performers.


The sentence I've highlighted is what I meant when I said there was a lack of rationality in the other posts. They were basically rants about him being worse than useless, which clearly isn't the case.

Horne has weaknesses in his game which have prevented him from becoming a truly top class all-round halfback. No argument there. He worked so well with Cooke because as a pair their strengths and weaknesses complimented each other, and he's not found such a good partner since - although our 7 situation has been chronic ever since Cooke left.

I was ready to see him retire based on the last few seasons. I think he's done enough this season to be worth another chance alongside a fit, organising 7 with a proper kicking game. Personally I was expecting him to be offered 1 year but without knowing the details of his 2 year deal it's difficult to say if it looks like good value or not. There should be plenty of competition for him next season so if he falls short there's certainly no hiding place.

Horne is on a vastly reduced contract - he had options to go to other clubs for around 20k more than what he is on at Hull now.

He owes the club a lot and knows he couldnt command the wage he used to be on, howver he did extremeley well out of his testimonial. I think, FWIW he will be back up to Ellis and Seymour next year and I'm happy to have him as that.

How is it sentiment when he has been playing well again for some time, doing what he does best again for somewhile.
