You hit the nail on the head when you said we are desperate for a FB, had we not sacked Tansey we would not be signing Phelps. I am underwhelmed because considering we went most of last season without our h/backs I wanted a h/back!!

Have to agree,I have said it before,lets give a player a chance before we start slating him.

Says on Sky he only played 7 games for wigan last year thought he played more than that to be fair , Not doubting he's a decent player but still a quota spot and hope we bring couple more in ...

good signing makes sense on a 1 year deal if he proves himself then obviously he could extend his stay, very versitile can play anywere in the backs but lets play him at fullback and allow him freedom to play as hes a very skillfull player, hopefully hes over the injury from last year and all we need now is a backup halfback gareth moore.

Yes but Herbert's not on a one year deal. Also he was brought in as first choice - a replacement for Orford - not as a back up.

Why does it need to be a one year deal if it meets our needs beyond 2011? I can't believe we have 2 new half backs signed up for 2012 considering we haven't found 1 in the last 4 years. I'm guessing we maybe have 1 and teh club will offer a new deal to either long or horne

and whos to say that herbert is what agar wanted they maybe other fringe nrl halfbacks been looked at that could cover 9 aswell such as rovelli but that dint work

Don't think he can. He will have to take a different number. Squads have to be registered by 31st December and once a number is allocated for the season, it cannot be re-used for another player - so he might actually be number 31 !!

We have no cover for hooker or h/back, I would sooner have left Whiting at f/back and carried on the search, where we going to find cover for hooker & h/back in Britain...and where is Berro & Tansey's wage going

You can't say that because some wigan fans have said phelps is really good. I wonder how many people would have been applauding this signing if we'd made it 2 months ago. Panic signing unless we have a couple of decent British players to come in.

The whole recruitment this off season hasn't addressed the needs of the squad

Posters are debating if it is the correct signing considering we have no h/back or hooker cover and now no overseas place left, however after looking through the thread no-one has slated phelps or questioned his ability
