what else did the public of Huddersfield have to do on a friday night? also add in the fact that they play in a nice ground, have just had their best season ever, and have made 2 CC finals in 3 years...and its even more baffling.
4,000 Hull fans would have gone to lands end to watch a playoff game!'" I have made exaclty the same comments on the Hudds site.
It seems to me that Hudds are living solely on the 'birthplace of RL' situation.

I can understand a seperate competition . like the challenge cup not being included but why shouldnt the playoffs be included, should your chosen team make the playoffs. If its bacause of revenue then i am sure the matches would bring additional paying supporters!
It would surely bring the crowds, because at the moment it looks shocking viewing for television
"empty stands in what is the finale end of the super league season.'" But wouldn't some argue that you are paying extra for tickets you wont need?

Our season passes have Vouchers in the back section these could be redeemed for the relevent playoff matches!
[u LOOK [/uwhich ever clubs DONT make the playoffs they dont fold or go under, so why should'nt the clubs reward their supporters by including these games within their season passes only seems right to me!

But you need to pay extra as the play off crowd money is pooled and doesn't go directly to the home team like it does in the league.

If thats the case then at least give a decent reduction on proof of being a season pass holder,Something to help promote the games attendences.

| Clubs could create incentives for fans to come out and support them though.
A simple buy a ticket for the first play off game and recieve an X% discount on game 2 should the club make it that far.
Surely as all reciepts are pooled there should not be a problem from any of the teams involved.

Indeed Paul. It makes our form this year even more infuriating. Our team of three years ago would have walked this league.
The crowd at the Galpharm last night was an embarrassment. As Mrs B said we got a huge crowd for the Wigan play off game in 2007 (including a big away following). In fact for the two home play off games that year we got a total of 28,431. Not forgetting the 16,000+ for the Bradford Final Eliminator in 2006.

being in the play offs and having a shout of getting to the GF should be incentive enough.
the teams need you more than ever in knock out rugby, no wonder hudds lost last night , playing in an empty stadia with no atmosphere, must have felt like they were on the training field!

At last a sane voice.
The team who has the most at the end of the weekly rounds should be crowned champions. By all means play an end of season knock out for the teams who finished in the top 6 or 8.

The problem with that is it will be just like it was in the 80's/90's with awful turnouts and teams viewing it as a mickey mouse cup.
I do agree and also mentioned earlier in this thread that i have personally seen Saints as the best team the last couple of seasons regardless that they never won the GF. This year Leeds are the best team.

For most of SL the team finishing top hasn't played the same set of fixtures as everyone else due to the screwy fixture lists, so arguably crowning them champions wouldn't have been a true reflection of the best side. While that was the case, choosing the champions via the playoffs made sense.
Now that we have a simple fixture list the team finishing top is unquestionably the best side over the course of the season and you could return to crowning them champions. Although it should be mentioned that in fact RL has chosen it's champions via playoffs for the vast majority of it's existence.
I'm pretty relaxed about either method TBH, although if we stick to the playoff format (and I'm sure we will) then I'd like to see the status of finishing top enhanced in some way to properly recognise the achievement.

Awful turnouts like this year's playoffs you mean?
Also I don't recall feeling that we'd won a 'Mickey Mouse cup' at Old Trafford in '91.

No way Leeds should have to play 2 matches to get to the GF. TBH I liked the existing format of top 6 with 1v2 in a GF eliminator.

is that partly due to our long periods between sucesses though?
would Leeds or Saints be that excitied about winning a 'premiership'
I don't think this playoff system is that bad, it just happens that clubs who get lower gates have ended up in the top 8 this year. Whilst the better attended clubs like ourselves, Wire and Bradford weren't in it.
I think the RFL need to look at the price of tickets though, such as offering much better discounts for tickets bought in advance, or even the RFL/SKY distributing cheap tickets like they do for televised Championship games.
I also think the 'old' format would have still led to the same quality of rugby. Because this year the elimination games have been at the same average/poor standard that the 'qualifying' games were last weekend.

but the problem is that if they only had to play one, then they'd have weeks off without a game, which can itself be bad for a team.
