He's entitled to defend himself as anyone is, but if he's getting some 'extra digs' in then however much it is morally justified, as CEO of Super League team then that is unprofessional. As a few people have said already, he should have been sensible enough to have avoided a busy drinking area on the day of a derby anyway.

Yup, whilst I agree that people should not be in fear of violence, but I'd also expect someone in Jimmy's position to be wise enough to avoid the potential situation in the first place.

That's what I'm saying, I never said anything that could remotely be taken to mean Rule deserved what happened, but he could have avoided
the situation in the first place if he'd used his common sense. And once it did happen, if Rule's actions went beyond self defence then they shouldn't have done, whatever the justification.

Given how naieve some of his decisions have been in the last few years, you have to question his suitability for the top job.

I know people will quote the A grade and all that, but with a brand new stadium, fanatic fans (to the point of stupidity in their faithfulness in cases) it would have taken a bit of a moron not to get a grade A.

I've often thought that recently, think he was commercial or marketing director before he got promoted? He seems ideally suited to a role like that but doesn't have the knowledge of RL to make a good CEO.

He's smooth, he says the right things to the right people (most of the time), I don't think there is a lot of respect for him amongst his counterparts though.

Your always making these type of gaffs and then trying to wriggle out of them, I well remember the posting of links fiasco! As the police were called to the incident when Rule had his nose broken in two places by a Rovers fan, if the constabulary were not satisfied he had only used necessary force, he would have been charged! Friends in the Police have told me since that's all he used, but I also believe he packs a bit of a punch too!

The "alledged" incident was regretable and involved a supporter not of this club. He was out on Princes ave post match with some of the back room staff and he was accosted, he did not deserve or warrant that.


I keep sticking up for Jimmy, I think he has a bad press and has done a good job for the club. I have not had a problem with him, apart from a wayward email which I sent by mistake, that was my fault not his. He does what he is instructed to do by his employer and he has done for me a good job. Like Trish Goldsmith the fans are very quick to criticise when they can not see what they do. They do a lot of good work with sponsors etc and have both have contributed to the success FC have become since those dark days of 1999.

Ok, first off the stadium announcer issue was neither a gaff nor a fiasco, I still maintain I have every right to tell someone who's wages I contribute towards that they are appalling at their job. Plenty of people agreed with me at the time so don't try dragging that one up again just because you had a dig in you're column.
